Thanks for pointing it out OP. I usually buy groceries on 20x events, and this type of limit will definitely impact my ability to get to $50 while getting the best deal!

Update:
I did phone Head office, and the gal seemed " surprised" by the info. She really sounded as if she was unaware of that new combo ripoff. She asked me to email the complaint as well so they would have more info and an official reply to me made.
So I emailed the whole description in to them as well. We will see what the response will be. They have to do the right thing and end this rip off deceptive way of stealing $$ from families for basic groceries.

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard of! Way to go screwing customers over Shopper's Drug Mart!

I also hate how their multiples deals ring in, for example chips 2/$5 ring in 1st $2.99, 2nd $2.01. It is so confusing!
One time they had chocolate bars 3/.99. They rang in .97, .01 and .01! So a lot of people would probably just grab one and pay .97 not knowing that they could get another 2 for only .02 more!
Bah!

I had a similar experience last year. I was in the store and noticed Soft Soap was on for $1.99. There was a little shelf sign that indicated "limit 4", so I grabbed 4. Next aisle over Lady Speedstick on for $1.99, again "limit 4", so I took 4.
At the cash, some of the soaps and deoderants rang in at $1.99 and some were ringing in at a higher amount. I stopped the cashier and we tried to figure out what was happening. She was as confused as me. Finally called a supervisor who pulled out the flyer and showed us how Soft Soap and Lady Speedstick were together in the flyer - same as the eggs and bread.
I sent a message to Tanya on SDM's Facebook page to say that I thought it was really confusing, especially considering I did not have a flyer with me. How was I supposed to know that the product sale limit was in combination with another product in a different aisle? I never heard back from her.
Good on ya for contacting them. I think their limit thing it is kinda sneaky and confusing. Maybe it will encourage them to present their flyers differently. I can't think of another store that does that.
Oh...and something else that SDM does that drives me nuts: Say they have an item on sale like juice or yogurt that has multiple flavours, I have noticed a sale item will not ring in at the sale price. When I question the price, they say 'the flyer says "selected varieties"'. I hate that. Raspberry, Strawberry and Peach will be on sale, but not Blueberry or whatever. I watch the shelf signage like a hawk now.

When that happens, at SDM or other stores, I smile and calmly say, "That's unfortunate. I wanted the blueberry. Please cancel my entire order."
Then the customer service manager has to come over and cancel the order, the returns girl/guy has to put the product back on the shelf, and the store has to explain the order cancellation to head office.
Head office gets the message that the customer was not satisfied.

Sdm always seems to have silly limits. And a lot of the time their sales are still more expensive than WM but I like my BPs lol, I think once I do my redemption on my remaining points I will no longer be going out of my way either.

I have come to the conclusion that I must have the most awesome SDM around. Unless there is a specific limit listed in the flyer, the SDM I frequent does not set limits on products.
If there is a limit listed in the flyer at 4 (for example), then it's 4 per PRODUCT and not a combination of products.
I think it comes down to how they are interpreting the flyer at the locations.

Kraze, I think it is actually depends on how the cash registers are set up. I don't know if that's done by the store or by a regional center but I am sure someone who has worked at SDM will tell us!

Wow ..that's sneaky . Plus a limit of 1 is ridiculous !!!
I can understand a limit of 4 or something .
Its happened to me in the past where they have advertised Gillete Deos , Shaving Gels etc together for $ 1.99 each and a limit of 4 , after which its $ 2.49 per item .
So I bought 3 Deodrants and 3 Shaving Gels ..guess what 2 of them were charged for $ 2.49
Not sure what the link is between a deo and shaving gel ..it should be 4 of each and not 4 of both of them put together.

You never heard from her as SDM is doing this delibrately and ripping customer's off ..its not a silly mistake on their part but they are doing it on purpose

These products are totally different and with totally different sku # 's and UPC barcodes , so someone has to go out of the way and program it into the system to combine the products together as far as the limit is concerned.
This needs high level approval and clearance so its not a coincidence or a mistake that they are doing this , they are doing this and hoping that the customer's won't notice.
Funny how you can buy any combinations 1 + 3 or 2 + 2 or 3 + 1 and it rings as 1.99 but if you buy 5 , 1 item rings as 2.49 or 2.29 or whatever .
This is programmed into the system delibrately with the head office approval & they are just playing dumb and are hoping that customer's don't notice it .
Not sure if this falls under false advertising or mis leading advertising , the company cab be fined a huge amount if that's the case and someone complains to the authorities.
SDM is lately going downhill with all the nonsense they are pulling off , with Target coming to town and more & more stores selling prescription drugs , even low end grocery stores like No Frills are on the drug selling band wagon now ( formerly it was only Loblaws , RCSS their higher end sister stores who were selling drugs ) , I see SDM being affected big time .
Very soon even Freshco , Food Basics , Price Chopper etc will sell precription drugs as Sobeys etc is selling them anyways .
