Yep, channel 57 on the old bushbutton cable converter box! I had never seen Monty Python, and really didn't get the British sense of humour until I started dating a girl who came from the UK (she's now my wife). Her family were rabid Python fans and missing it on Friday nights was considered blasphemy in their house. So I acquired a taste for Python (and other British humour) thanks to those Friday nights in her family's rec room.
Speaking of British humour (he's Welsh actually), this comedian is pretty funny:

My stance on commercials is this: If you don't want commercials when listening to music, listen to CDs. Commercials are not only what pay for the prizes, they're also what pay the salaries of most of the people at the station. Hell, even sattelite radio, which you have to PAY for the priviledge of listening to, has commercials.
Q did get into some hot water a while back, though, over their "Never More Than Two Minutes Away" promos. Someone complained to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council over them.
http://www.ccnr.ca/english/decisions/2008/080716a.php
The bottom line was that they ARE never more than two minutes away during the 9am - 5pm period, but the commercial breaks are longer during the morning show, so they canned the promo altogether.
Personally, I think the anal-retentive, obsessive-compulsive twit who complained to the CBSC in the link above should get a life, move out of his parents' basement, and quit whining about something he's not paying for.Last edited by truenorthstrongnfree; Fri, Oct 9th, 2009 at 09:45 AM. I didn't "get" them when I was first introduced to them. I used to watch Doctor Who with my british friend, Phil, on PBS (channel 17 at the time). His parents thought Monty Python's Flying Circus was a little too risque for us, and didn't want it corrupting our fragile little eggshell minds, but we snuck a few glimpses while they were watching. It wasn't until I saw The Meaning of Life years later that I truly appreciated them. What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?

Ha, my wife is also British (her parents came off the boat). But I wasn't fortunate enough to watch the "good" shows like Faulty Towers or Flying Circus. I was stuck watching 'Are you being served' and 'Allo Allo' (which wasn't all that bad I guess). Her parents have been here for over 35 years and he still listens to the BBC Radio (started on-line then on satellite radio) and still has his accent and uses English slang. 35 years, ASSIMILATE ALREADY!

I'm pretty sure you are just kidding. My inlaws are the same in all respects, but I wouldn't want them to change - their Britishness is part of their charm. Then again, I am blessed with wonderful inlaws who are just as much family to me as are my own blood relatives. Sitting down for a chat with my father-in-law is always a great lesson in life and history.
