Ha, my wife is also British (her parents came off the boat). But I wasn't fortunate enough to watch the "good" shows like Faulty Towers or Flying Circus. I was stuck watching 'Are you being served' and 'Allo Allo' (which wasn't all that bad I guess). Her parents have been here for over 35 years and he still listens to the BBC Radio (started on-line then on satellite radio) and still has his accent and uses English slang. 35 years, ASSIMILATE ALREADY!

Two of my mom's favourites was On the Busses and Are You Being Served.

I used to manage a video store, which was owned by an Irish couple. They specialized in BBC series, and we had a booth at the British Isles Show every year. One year, we had Richard and Hyacinth Bucket (that's "Bouquet", not "Bucket", by the way) signing autographs. They were very friendly, and really seemed to enjoy being there.

Another year, we had Tracey Ullman... completely different experience altogether. She showed up late, went straight to the trailer and informed us not to disturb her. She finally emerged about 45 minutes later, signed a handfull of autographs for some people who had been waiting quite a while, then went all diva on us and stormed out.

I'm pretty sure you are just kidding. My inlaws are the same in all respects, but I wouldn't want them to change - their Britishness is part of their charm. Then again, I am blessed with wonderful inlaws who are just as much family to me as are my own blood relatives. Sitting down for a chat with my father-in-law is always a great lesson in life and history.

Yes, I am kidding (I was joked with my wife when we were dating that if we ever broke up, I would have to break up with her father first ). You are very right about sitting and talking with them (my father-in-law), and hear him talk about how it was like growing up. Gives a very different perspective of how life used to be and how fortunate we are now.

Is that where PBS was bumped to? My "nothin' on, start surfing from 02 again" rotation usually stops at about 55 or so.
