For this year and every year we do a huge egg hunt..I have amassed a huge collection of plastic and wicker eggs..I have hidden socks (one in each egg) coins and $5 dollar bills, small toys ,comics,I have two huge wicker eggs which usually have a spring jacket and shoes,I do little chocolate eggs but try not to od on the candy..tokens for kids amusement places(huge hit here as we don't go often!) mini play-doh,peices of a puzzle(fun to build later when they need a quiet break),pails, shovels, sidewalk chalk ,any outdoor stuff I may be buying for summer time, skipping robes, bubbles and wands, gardening gloves, jacks, themed erasers. As DD is almost 11 this year will include itunes cards.DS is 2 so anything is fun It will be the thrill of finding eggs!
For next year...I always hit the sales after Easter and buy Easter themed non-perishable and tuck them away....

Wow! That sounds awesome. We are a little lower key here. I bought a playdoh kit for each kid that was on clearance for $7, but need some stuff for the hunt. I usually do a bit of chocolate and candy and a few little toys or markers etc. I will definitely check out the sales after Easter this year but that doesn't help me this year!

When my kids were young, we would fill the plastic eggs with popcorn, trail mix or raisins. That way there was lots for the kids to hunt for, but not too much chocolate and candy.

It won't help much this year, but buying outdoor toys in August for next Easter is the way to go. You can also redeem Shoppers points for Easter treats.
Easter can be so expensive if you have a lot of kids to buy for!

If you need to buy candy, NO FRILLS has the nestle eggs 2/88 (at walmart they are 88 each) if you happen to have the B3G1 free coupon an even better deal.

I have been looking out for deals, son is obsessed with dino's so walking by Indigo one day I saw a dino encyclopedia for kids for 3.99 so I started with that. He doesnt like chocolate so I will buy jelly beans and gummies and hide them around. My parents always did little presents (under $10) and candy so that is what I think I will do.

Hi there! A little hint from a little disaster in the past - my dad once hid a chocolate egg on top of a lightbulb in a lamp........ result......ich!
For next time - I usually buy chocolates or chocolate bars after Christmas for Valentine's Day and after Valentine's Day for Easter. - doesn't always work for kids, though.
Plastic eggs filled with jellybeans always worked for us.
Bulbs to plant in the garden or in a pot of soil.
$1 store "rings" meant for Birthday loot bags.
"Bunny Bags" made out of Easter themed material that you pick up at a local "Fabricland"ish place after Easter.
Pussy Willow "furbabies" to plant in the garden to see if they'll grow bunnies (followed up in a month or so by small stuffy bunnies that you pick up after Easter)
Salvation Army, Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul usually have very inexpensive "Easter Themed" little things to pick up.

My SIL would always do the Easter Egg Hunt on the Easter Monday in the afternoon and she would buy everything that morning at RCSS as it goes on half price on the Monday lol.
I usually buy with optimum points at SDM and Walmart usually has inexpensive things for baskets. I always save my baskets from year to year so not to have to buy them again each year.

We do a scavenger type hunt...I make up rhyming clues of where to look for things!! At 19 and 13 my DSs were asking the other day about it..cause they still want it!!! We started it because my eldest would find everything in two minutes!! This way they work together
and it lasts as long as you have clues and stuff to hide! One year we did it for hours!!! It was so nice DH and I sat on the back deck and had our tea and watched all morning

I make rice krispie squares and wrap them in baggies and put them in the plastic eggs. I have died they marshmellows Easter colours before but this year found 4 bags already coloured at bulk barn for .99 each. It is super cheap.

okay, i'll admit it... i went a bit overboard this year. my dd1 needed a new bike so i bought her 1 at wm for $49 but of course i got roped into the barbie basket for the front and the barbie sparklers for the handlebars (barbie stuff is expensive!) dd2 got the new fur real friend bunny that hops and makes cute 'tsktsk' noises (shes almost 2). not to mention chocolates and fillers oh my. definitly will be hitting up WM after easter to stock up for next year. (thought i did this last year, but in our move i think stuff got lost/thrown out
)
