A few weeks ago I cancelled my cable tv. The price just keeps on going up and up, and I have had enough of paying a small fortune for a lot of the same.
For the past few weeks, I have been watching the shows that I like online, but I must admit that I have missed television....so I have been looking into getting an antenna for my roof. The antenna's for the roof seem pretty reasonable, but being the cheap a$$ that I am, I googled and youtubed until I found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWQhlmJTMzw
aka Coat Hanger HDTV Antenna (on you tube in case my link does not work). So yesterday I went to The Source and bought myself the vhf transmitter that was used in the video ($5), begged for some coat hangers and got to work.I now get, PERFECTLY CLEAR.....BETTER THAN MY CABLE EVER WAS....FREE....CBC, Global, CHTV, CTV, TVO, CBC-FL, AND CTS.Most of the American shows are shown on the Canadian networks, so I am not too bothered about those.....so now the fun begins, trying to boost the signal so I can pull in Citytv. It is up in my attic so I do not have to look at the ugly thing....

ahahha! That is so funny! Good for you! We moved out to a farm last year and I told my husband we were not getting anything for at least 6 months, it lasted 8, but then he got sneaky and set up satelite. I prefer no tv at all, not that I dont waste hords of hours on the internet!! I think that soon all tv will just be run through the internet anyway. I think you can have tons of fun with that, trying to boost your tv signal. Good little engineering experment for you.

Congrats i_forget!!
I admire anyone who can stiff the overpriced cable companies. Wish I could do it here again, ( was almost 2 1/2 yrs with rabbit ears and loved it! ) but I am out numbered by DH Sports needs and my offspring fav. shows that they watch. The cost is ridiculous really when you consider monthly expenses. I agree with bgheuchert it will eventually be all through the internet one day.

Good for you! I admire that. I gave up my HBO (only channel I really liked), but I will never be able to convince DH & DDs to give it all up completely. Why am I the only one sacrificing around here??? LOL. At least we are keeping Netflix (for now).

When we moved into this house in February we decided to get phone and internet only. Mainly just for savings purposes, and with kids in the house all it would mean is me paying $50 a month to watch Treehouse >.< we've always watched our shows online since alot are on US networks we dont get (or dont get till they are a season behind anyways). I do kind of miss channel surfing, but I make up for it internet usage
