I would just have gone to Canadian Tire to use my coupons. The $1 deals at SDM, CT, Zellers, etc., are always the smaller/junior sizes here in BC so I wouldn't have price matched because I wouldn't personally have felt that it was ethical. I know some people feel otherwise and they are entitled to their opinion and to shop the way they choose. I do have difficulty understanding why people ask for the opinions of others when it's a sure bet that there will be controversy in the thread. That said, I also have difficulty understanding why I didn't just keep my own mouth shut and refrain from posting. I generally avoid the brag thread because of the all too-frequent appearances of the words "haters" and "abusers". Time for some of us to 'back away from the keyboard'...

It's your business. It's your conscience. It's up to you. As long as I don't have to get the kitty the next time I'm at WM...allergies!
LF: Chapman's ice cream and Dare coupons.DS has a peanut allergy so it's the ONLY ones we buy.

I agree that she did not abuse the coupon. Walmart will be reimbursed for this.
As far as abusing their policy, I have gone into Walmart and gone to the supervisor (or whatever they call them...) and asked if I could pricematch (it was actually the Ziplocs last month) while showing the super that the box in the flyer at CT was not available at WM, so could I get one of lesser "regular price" value instead? She even went to the store owner/manager who was just leaving at the time and he said that yes I could have 10 for that price, while making sure I understood it was a "favour" they were doing for me. I got the ziplocs, thanked them both, and was on my merry way.
We all know by now that any WM "policy" (ahem!) is interpreted in many ways, depending on the cashier and/or manager and his/her mood that day.
Well played I say, but next time do as most of us do, and avoid the conflict by posting your brags! lol

I no longer post brags either! I agree--no matter how perfect you do it, someone here will pick it apart!

Geez, I hope you didn't cause the cashier that let this happen a write-up. A person can get into some serious trouble for this
Big mistake on both parts.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with posting legit brags. People only "pick apart" brags that are obviously immoral. As long as you're acting like a responsible human being, post all the brags you want. I like reading them.

I have to disagree. I've been hounded and been treated very badly for getting the Lever 2000 soap for 13 cents a 4 pack when I posted my brag about it despite me doing nothing wrong and it was totally legit. Granted, a MOD removed the nasty comments but it wasn't the first time something like that happened, thus why myself and others refrain from posting brags.
I mostly stick to lurking the brag boards and posting the odd comment or two.Insert Clever Signature Here

I can't help but add my 2 cents here as far as abuse for coupons go. If it comes right down to it, I think the manufacturers put out the coupons for us to "try" their products. I don't believe they really put them there for us to buy several at a time even after we may have already used the product many times in the past. I know that whenever a new product comes out, very often there are coupons for it.
So, if this were the case, I think we are all guilty of abusing them as in not using them for what they were intended for, "trying the product". I am not saying I am not guilty of this because I will use them the same way everyone else does.
Anyway, this is just an opinion and I have to add that I do love coupons.

The OP opened up the debate with a question. I vote no - not cool.
@Judyhill's comment - I grew up in a food manufacturing family business - many of you buy the products even now. We were not big issuers of coupons, but we used coupons to encourage people to buy our product vs a competitor's product - not just lure in new users. Same reason we offered co-op money to stores for ads and cooperated with grocery stores to help them run specials. It was all about pushing for market share and more sales generally.
You are correct that manufacturers will push coupons on new products/flavors but it is all part of building volume for that new product. The failure rate on grocery products is very high - lots of products fail. It's hard to get shelf space and hard to build that critical volume so the company must advertise, put out coupons, run specials, put out recipe cards etc to drive volume.
If the retailer drops the product price to cost plus the manufacturer gives away their share via coupons, and the result is free stuff for the savvy buyer, at least they are driving volume and getting people used to the brand.Last edited by JadeDragon; Thu, Apr 12th, 2012 at 01:23 AM.

I will NOT state my opinion on this either way, but I will say this...
Walmart's pricematching policy is subject to availability. As with most stores that pricematch, they will match the price of any item advertised, and if they DONT have that exact item they will match it to the closest AVAILABLE product.
So if WM didn't have the small size, then the next size up was the one that was "purchased", then it is all legit according to the stores PM policies... and the coupon then becomes fair game.
That's my thought on this matter....

i ask because i want to know what people think. i know in my mind how i feel about it and whether it was right or wrong. i am perfectly comfortable reading what other people have to say. im glad you shared your opinion. how else are people who are newbies, such as myself, ever going to learn. i take what people say and learn. i always remember the bottom line is to be honest, read the coupon and follow the policies.

you are totally right. you know that palmolive coupon was in 2 different issues of smart soure that were released, pretty much, right after eachother. the exact same coupon. i thought that was odd.
