My DH is a stay-at-home-keep-the-fire-in-the-woodstove H at the moment. I am the sole income provider and a huge coupon fan. I find and clip, my daughters clip and sort. DH thinks this is just what we do. I told him "Anything I can do to save money, I'll do it. With coupons, it is so much easier". From time to time he will open his mouth about the bags and bags of stuff I bring and the time I spend searching for coupons and good deals. I show him the receipts and tell him to SHUT IT. Everyone's happy
You just gotta train your family to follow your lead. Couponing is not just a silly hobby, it is a smart way of life.

Nope, he is quite supportive of my couponing (but not my loyalty card addiction - he doesn't 'get why paying slightly more for an item at SDM on a 20x point day actually saves money because he just doesn't get the points system). I even send him coupon hunting and to go out in the cold to get the flyers a day early from the girl who sorts them
But honestly, you husband's issues seem more to do with his mental health issues and less to do with couponing, I imagine he would have the same reaction if you spent that time at the gym or scrapbooking etc

My hubby is great with it! When we first got together and we went on a shopping trip together, he was AMAZED at how much money I saved him. And how frequently I could save money. He said he's never used coupons because he doesn't really "understand" and my reply was "what's not to understand about free money?" and that was our last discussion. Now he knows...we don't get his body was unless we have a coupon because every couple weeks it comes on sale, and he stocks up! Very good, and he is very supportive!!
If he wont take part I'm not sure what to do, its hard to say from my side because my hubby loves it. (not to brag, sorry!) You need to do you though, and he shouldn't be taking away from it. If couponing is your you time, well then all the power to you!

My hubby was a little hesitant at first, especially with the amount of time it took me to create my spreadsheet, etc. After the first shopping day that I came home and saved $20 (on things we actually use!) he jumped on the bandwagon. Now he watches our daughter for as long as I need every night to keep things organized!
I agree with other posters, maybe try to get him involved? And definitly save your receipts and show him the money you save!

You're not alone.... My circumstances are different but I understand how you are feeling. My bf is ADHA and OCD. Now combine that with we've been together almost 2 years, I have a 18 yr old DD and twin 7 yr old sons as well as we have a 14 month old (not planned), he takes care of his 86 yr old parents pretty much every day (taking them shopping and making dinner and cleaning up) and is an avid hunter (trips away from home from Sept to Dec). He still has his friends and outside activities and I am expected to pretty much be home full time taking care of kids and home and anything that takes away from that is frowned on. Oh and our house is in the middle of reno's which nothing has been done since August (he is doing all the reno's). I think I can count on one hand the nights I have had 5 hours of straight sleep in one night in the past 14 months and to be perfectly honest I am exhausted, my memory is shot, and when I get up in the morning and look around the house all at different levels of reno'ed I just want to crawl back to bed and have a very difficult time dealing with any of it. I love couponing because first I know it will stretch the monthly budget and I can stock up so I will never be in a position to "need" food for my familiy again like when I was a single mom. He doesn't understand that. Second, I feel like I have accomplished something really good. At the same time though I feel stressed and rushed when I am trying to do my shopping or organizing my coupons because I don't want him to get upset with how much time it is taking. He does support to a point where he's told me to get coupons sent to his business PO box and his parents address so I have more to use and his mom has started saving the coupon inserts for me. It's strange because on one hand he is supportive but on the other he isn't. We don't have alot of storage space and the OCD in his can't stand seeing the stuff stockpiled where he can see it. Every once in a while he gets mad and lets loose and it's not pretty.

hmm....i don't have this problem but i feel for you, and i also don't think people should immediately be putting down your husband or saying he's a bad man. agoraphobia runs in my family and i have seen firsthand how much of an effect it can have on a person...although i have no idea what sort of social issues plague your husband/family, i do have experience with social anxiety myself. it's not fun for anyone involved. i say stick with your couponing though, especially since you're the one who works and are the one saving the money. bravo to you...you sound like a very strong woman.

She i think im lucky there, but not at the same time. My hubby is 50/50 on it but at home he doesn't even notice what i am doing with the couponing or how much time i spend because i married a WORLD OF WAR CRAFT PLAYER =( So for the most part, he goes to work and i am a stay at home mom, and when he comes home we do our family stuff. like dinner and homework and so on but then usually after dinner it is straight tot he computer! and i do keep track a bit and he plays on average 6 days a week. SOOOOO as soon as the kids are in bed i am couponing all I want! LMAO

My fiance is completely on board! I just started but already he is my side-kick on our coupon hunting adventures. Hes right in it along with me! We are both university students so he understands the value of the difference in saving those extra dollars. Plus we hope to donate back to the food bank in the wonderful city of Calgary.
I am sorry to hear yours isn't as supportive! How can't he when its saving money? As my grandma would say "In today's economy... yadda yadda."

I'm sorry you're going through this

I now realize how fortunate I am to have my DH, he loves a great deal as much as I do, he gets (almost) as excited as I do on a good mail day, he brings me coupons home sometimes (who needs over 10 Sensodyne coupons, lol--he tries), he knows how my coupon holder is organized, and most importantly he knows that I enjoy it.
Maybe he just needs some time to get used to it.....

Even though Husb won't checkout with me if I am using more than four coupons he did SCOP while shopping by himself the other day and came out to tell me so proud of himself!
I am so sorry to hear about your situation but I tend to agree with Blaw, It's time to gently talk about getting some assistance with the issues? Try to stay as non confrontational as possible and try to use "I" instead of "you" while addressing the situation. Best of luck, thoughts are with you (:

I love couponing, I have sent my BF to walmart for a 10 items all with coupons, some free, the ladies in the line up asked him how he was able to be resouceful and he told them its all about my love of coupons, he just follows my directions.
EVERY PENNY COUNTS!

It's the exact samething in our house!! LOL. I'm a stay at home mom and he's at work all day when he comes home we do our family thing then after supper i'm off to the bedroom to do my couponing and he watches the kids. He NEVER attempts to play WOW unless he's asked me first though. 95% of the time i do not care (his computer is in the livingroom, i was sneaky when we decided where each of our computers would go and his went in the livingroom for a reason... so HE can watch the kids
Lol.) The other 5% is if he hasn't done enough around the house yet or i'm PO'ed. LOL. so, then he cleans until i'm satisfied and then he's allowed to play. Lol.
When i started couponing he was neutral. He did however think that we didn't need to use them all the time, "a coupon here and a coupon there" were his exact words. Because we weren't "hard off money". To that i said "why use a $1 off here or and $.50 off there when i can get MORE off?" 5 bucks a month isn't going to be saving a lot when there are so many coupons out there for products we already use. So after that he started kind of getting into them himself. Not as much as me, but he ALWAYS helps and is ALWAYS supportive of it, because he wants to "see me happy and make me happy", are his exact words. He helps find coupons for me when we're shopping and he's not afraid to grab them (literally he tries to grab ALL the coupons, i have to stop him sometimes because we REALLY don't need 50 egg white coupons and others might need/want some too. LOL.)
But, seriously, if he'd not been supportive of this i'd quite honestly give him a backhand and tell him to GET OVER IT!! There is NO WAY i'd stand for someone telling me what i can and can't or should and should not do, i don't give a sh*t if he is the main income provider in this house.
I didn't really have much of a hobby before this but maybe some games on facebook, but, now since i've been on here i've hardly used FB i enjoy this much MUCH more!
I'm sure your Hubby will eventually come around. There are a lot of good suggestions from people on here. I wish you luck!!

My entire family really thought I was going overboard with the coupons at first but now My step-daughter asks to go out to the stores and check for coupons for me and DH will actually use coupons occasionally...and when I informed him my ink was running low on the printer he rushed out to pick up more so i could print more coupons lol he even said "...too bad you didnt have a coupon for that!" lol Sorry to hear that your hubby isn't so supportive but hopefully with some professional help for his problems he wont have such a problem with your couponing time.
