US Target buys Zellers

Yes, Target is a more attractive modern store than Zellers, but sad to see a Canadian based company being bought out. We don't have many left. Wish they could've gotten it together. Hopefully Target will keep the SPC.

My Mom worked for Zellers about 10 years ago and I remember her telling me that Target had bought Hudson's Bay(years ago)? When you go into a Target store it smells, looks and feels JUST like a Zellers store, they even have the same store brands. (At the time it was the Cherokee brand). If I read it right, they are only buying the locations?

I love Target in the States! They have unbelievable prices, which I don't expect to see in Canada. I hope they bring over their coupon system! They just scan them and never look at them. Plus you can stack in-store coupons with manufacturers.

Our Zellers is terrible here. I used to work in Zellers Red Deer and the selection and store was incredible. It seems like our store here orders stock for Christmas and then just spends all year trying to sell it off.... by May they have no summer shoes left.. but winter boots are hanging out in the shelves in August with dust on them.
Our make up dept looks like a coloring box exploded. No one EVER cleans that
dept.

You should think about to use gift cards(from Zellers) and/or Hbc reward points soon before it is too late. Target (NYSE:TGT) is spending $1.83 billion to buy up the leasehold interests in 220 Zellers stores from the storied Hudson's Bay Company. Though Target will run them as Zellers stores "for a period of time."


Recall The Hbc Rewards Program terminate The Program catalogue/Rewards guide in 2009. With the Target takeover deal who knows what is going to happen to its gift cards and/or Hbc reward points?

yikes, it appears i am in the minority here, i really love zellers. since having my first child 9 months ago, i've been shopping almost exclusively at my local zellers (which is new, clean, and has nice staff). the combination of price matching, spc and couponing has saved me hundreds of dollars over the past year, its been pretty incredible. BUT i do understand others complaints about terrible ones, it seems to just depend where the store is located.

As for Target coming, i suspect it will be different than in the states, different brands (i.e not all the same as the US ones), different couponing policy (as they can get away with no stacking etc), but maybe i'm just a cynic - who knows how this'll change our shopping habits, it'll be an exciting closing/opening of stores when they start!

Zellers hasn't been Canadian for a while, it was taken over by an American company a few years back.

I heart target. I type this sitting wrapped in my Target blanket...which I got during black friday in the US......ahhhhh 4 am line ups...grand memories. Back to the point. I LOVE Target..adios Zellers

I heard this too on the radio while driving the kids to school this morning. My first thought was... there goes HBC points and SPC savings . Hopefully Target will bring with it some good coupon/savings program comparable.
