More products for $1 are coming to Walmart Canada as the retailer takes on dollar stores, Target and the country's biggest grocers in a strategy to win a larger share of the domestic retail market.

Personally, I can't wait for more price slashing.

^ haha I am just imagining an Roll Up commercial lol

I think its great and about time - Wages aren't increasing but the cost of everything is. Plus it is great for us couponers imagine the overages when a $1 item goes on sale or clearance - Yippee

Does this mean that they are lowering the price of items that they are already selling or are they just adding more cheap items that you would normally find in a dollar store?

Maybe companies with record profits should be increasing wages. I love how my company can open up a new store every month yet pays a 'race to the bottom' wage.
Did you see the pool? They flipped the B!tch!

I had a look around Walfart (because they STINK) and I found more items that I would normally find at the dollar store.

Yes, I know Walmart already sells items that you would find at a dollar store. My question is are they actually going to reduce prices or are they just adding more cheap items to make it look like they are reducing prices? I'm sick of everything being made lower and lower quality so that we feel like we're getting a better deal.
I had to replace a cutting board (the plastic ones catch fire if you put them on the stove and then turn on the wrong burner. ) I bought the old one at Walmart about 5 years ago. When I went to get a new one I noticed that it's quite a bit thinner. I don't really care about cutting boards so I bought it anyway. But it made me wonder what else they've made cheaper to keep turning a profit.

With the quality of Walmart merchandise it should already be listed at a buck..

Well its all great that they go after Target and Dollar store. Walmart is known to go into town drop prices and closed all the local little business that are striving to survive! If they do this it migh close more businesses in Canada which means more Canadian's will lose there jobs!!!! Which is really really bad! Walmart is know in making town become gost towns then leave! Meaning they will keep lowing till all the local business are shut down then they leave because there's no more jobs and people can't afford to shop anymore!

This is my two cents worth!

I'm not sure that is happening in Canada - I believe its more in the states - I have never heard of a Walmart closing up shop in Canada!

i sure hope so,wal mart seems to hardly have any good sales really lately it seems like! and i don't think i will ever get the hang of being one of those shoppers gurus. Other then that i am left with no frills and fresh co. zehrs and sobeys are too expensive, most other stores are just too far out of my reach.

We live in such a "disposable" society. I'd rather buy one thing that was made well (and lasted a long time) that was more expensive than ten others for a buck a piece.
