My PM got censored or something?

So I was trading some Stouffers PINs with someone, and sent the PINs through a PM.

Last night the person messaged me to say one didn't work, seemed to be missing some characters. Fair enough, I must have cut/pasted it wrong and missed a couple letters at the end.

This morning I sent it again, sure that I'd put the missing letters in. And I got another message from the trader saying it was the same as before. AGAIN, it was missing the last three letters! I had to write a sentence with instructions to put these letters at the end (making sure to keep the letters separate from each other).

I've had posts censored before for mentioning unmentionable sites (no, not THOSE kinds of sites, just competitors, etc.), but PMs? And I don't even know if these letters are a competeting site, never heard of it if it is.

Hmmm ... that doesn't seem right. I mean private messages are just that - private. Or so they should be. If they are being monitored then that is going to the extreme don't you think?

wow that is kinda strange! You would think sending over a code like that would just look like a bunch of jumbled letters.

It is not that they are monitored, just that there is software in the system that no matter where you post if it finds certain strings of text will delete them, many are for the purposes of decorum too (so you can't curse too badly lol) but some are for competing sites. Like we refer to SmartCanucks as SC other sites have letters theirs are known as and it is not unheard of for site owners to join other sites and spam their links

The last three letters got cut every time in PM (but strangely, not here!).

I don't think they're being read and changed by a mod - as FallenPixels said, it's likely a software that does it. Can you imagine the job of going through EVERYONE'S PMs to make sure they weren't writing anything offensive/banned/etc.?

Happened not once but twice. The first time I thought I'd made an error cutting/pasting, the second time I'm SURE it was there. But when I looked at my sent messages it was not. Super weird!
