Aeroplan bonus points question

Hey ya'll!

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a question I have regarding Aeroplan travel/points.

Scenario:
Wanna fly home in Aug. Home being Terrace, BC. I can either fly out of Calgary or Edmonton (live in Red Deer so travel time to either city is about the same), transfer in Vancouver, then head north.

I've discovered that if I was to fly from Calgary to Edmonton (or vice versa) I can get an extra 7500 miles.
My question is: if I'm using points for the flight already (free flight) am I even able to get those free miles?

It's been awhile for me but in the past you did not accumulate points (regular or bonus) on free flights

Pretty sure you're right on that. I never accumulated any points on free flights - been a couple of years since the last one, though.
