LONDON — It's every parent's nightmare -- get home and realize a child is missing.
British Prime Minister David Cameron's office confirmed Monday that he accidentally left his 8-year-old daughter Nancy in a country pub after a family Sunday lunch.
Officials said the incident happened "a couple of months ago," as the family was leaving the pub near Chequers, a country house prime ministers use while in office, west of London.
Nancy had gone to the bathroom while Cameron and the rest of the family piled into two cars to drive back to the house.
Cameron was travelling in one car with his bodyguards and assumed that she was in the other car with his wife Samantha and two other children. Samantha assumed Nancy was with her father, and they only realized she was missing when they got home.
In a statement, Cameron's Downing Street office said "the prime minister and Samantha were distraught when they realized Nancy wasn't with them. Thankfully when they phoned the pub she was there safe and well."
Nancy was separated from her parents for around 15 minutes until Cameron arrived to collect her from The Plough in the village of Cadsden, officials said.
Sunday pub lunches are have long been traditional in Britain, with fare often including roast beef, potatoes, and salad along with red wine, beer or ale.
Actually I can totally understand this if they were travelling in 2 cars but seriously I would freak out. I have never left my kids anywhere although I did have that moment of panic when my DS was under 2 and slipped under the clothing racks in Sears. Longest 20 seconds of my life.
I can't imagine how they felt. Being PM he probably has the added worry of kidnapping threats etc. This thread is currently associated with: Sears

All's well that ends well for the PM. Patty my eldest son did that same thing in a Zeller's as a tot. He was playing a form of hide and seek but neglected to tell me we were playing! I was freaking out like you, longest moment of my life...till I found him, hugged him and scolded the crap outa him.

My mom left me accidentally at a store - My sister was listening to her walkman (it was the 90's no I-anythings lol) and she didn't see me go inside the store to look for my mom - my mom assumed I was in the back of the van when she got in bc my sister was there so why would I not be lol She realized when she got home and FLIPPED OUT - she found me wondering the isles of the store looking for her lol Thankfully we only lived 5 min from that store so she wasn't gone long.

It isn't as uncommon as one might think - poor him, though, having to go through the joking of him not being able to count to three... but it's an honest mistake there being two vehicles.
My parents, one summer road trip (with five kids at the time) did leave my older brother at a gas station somewhere in the boonies, but realized it after several miles away. (I wish they would have left him there, lol!)
