Tonight I had an awesome evening - date night with my five year old! I had a respite worker for a few hours (Provincial program for parent's of special needs children funds this so childcare was $0 OOP), and decided to take one of my kids out with me. She is an awesome little 5 year old, who patiently watches as her older siblings are currently enrolled in 4 extracurricular activities, and her little sister often demands a lot of my attention. Tonight was her night!
We started off by using a few of the movie admission coupons from the cereal boxes which saved us $10 for my admission, and $8 for her's. We then used 2 of the movie snack coupons from the tacos. I was surprised that the coupons were good for any candy (even the ones which must have been $4-$5 each), and also got one of the small pop. The movie "Tangled" was a hit with my little princess!! total OOP = $0
We got out of the theatre about 40 minutes before the library was closing so we rushed over there. My 5 year old has a free library card for kids. She chose a few DVDs, and played on the computer for a while total OOP = $0
If you are looking for an inexpensive activity for your kids, I highly reccomend the library -- ours is awesome!
So that was our fabulous and free night out! I'm looking forward to another free night at the movies with some of the local stackers this month
ps...there are plenty of free or inexpensive activites for kids in our community, and likely yours as well. Cadets is a fabulous and free Canada wide program. Our church runs an awesome teen group one night per week, school sports leagues don't require registration fees, nor do some programs at the YWCA. Also, out community offers a reduced rate for single parent families at the pool - $150 for six months of unlimited swimming at 4 city pools. My kids have also been rewarded with bowling and movie passes for volunteering

I have saved over $1320 with coupons since Dec 30/10! (+ at least another 700 in sales!)

you sound like an amazing mother!
i'm not nearly ready to be one...it's going to be a while
BUT these are great ideas for the future!
(let's hope that e-books don't take over & squish paper books out of the market...there's something unique about holding a book in your hand, turning the pages & getting wrapped up in the intrigue of a novel...)

when my boys were little, the library alway had free music, magic shows and other free entertainment, plus there was always someone for mom to chat with.
Sound like you had a nice time
