    Hi again,

So Dec 10 I received a letter to say my application was delayed. Dec 22 my account online says approved for disability tax credit for 2015. It also shows 2005-2014 but says no tax info on file. I'm guessing they are processing 2005-2014 at the moment. Fingers crossed. I sent my info to the Surrey, BC tax centre.

Obviously you are not providing all the details on here, and you seem to be of the understanding that you are going to get "denied" anyway...so why apply then? Most Govt offices have been on holidays since last week, and won't be back till 1st week in January 16

I'll post again a as I have new info.

I'm sort of concerned my application will be denied, otoh, I'm not that concerned about it. We either qualify or we don't, I'm trying not to obsess about this, lol, obviously I'm not that successful! I've told myself I won't bother with this at all until the end of February unless CRA contacts me before then. I'll post again when I have info to share.

Your comment seems a little nasty to me. I'm giving a time line of my application as I get information. I have appreciated information when others have shared their experiences in this thread. I commented on feeling my application may not be approved, I'm sure many people who have applied have felt anxious while waiting for their application to be processed. I haven't shared personal details of the disability characteristics, I feel that is personal, but sharing the time details related to my application may be useful to others in the same way I found reading the time line of others useful.

I find it interesting that you took the time to reply/comment on my post when you appear to find no useful information in it. I feel confident there are others, whether they've posted or not, who have and will continue to find my contribution useful.

    Hi again,

So, curiosity got the better of me and on the morning of Dec 24 I called CRA to inquire why my online account says in 2015 I will be able to claim the DTC and 2005-2014 say "no tax information on file". After speaking to two different people I was told they have never seen that before and it is quite likely a mistake. They said there is no reason to have been approved for 2015 and not the other years as they are still waiting for more information back from my Dr.. CRA told me they would have someone look into this for me, but at this point the only explination they could provide was a data entry error. They asked me to call back in February if I haven't heard from them by then.

    sigh.

So, as before, I'll post when I have more info to share. Originally, I had decided to wait until February to make any inquiries as that seems to be the usual time line for getting info based on what others have shared here. I'm not sure why I called CRA last week, curiosity I guess. I didn't find out anything useful, so in hindsight I'd have been just well off not bothering to call and I'd have saved the bother of calling and time on hold waiting for them to try and figure out what is going on with my application status. In future, I'll just wait to hear from them for a good long time before I bother to contact them.

H, my son was approved for the year 2015 but they said they couldn't approve year prior due to the dr not be able to provide info on the diagnosis for the years prior . Now my question is how do I get them to look back when the dr originally out years 2006-2015 but he was only being seen by her 2015 . Do I get a new form for the previous years from his pedi or his family dr. Will I be automatically approved because the diagnosis is the same previously to now ? I find it ridiculous I have to get two forms for the years even tho the dr put 2006-2015 on the form ! Any help appreciated

So, there has been a change to my cra account file. It now says:
2016 no disability tax information on file
2015 We are processing your disability tax information application
2006-2014 No disability tax information on file

I'be no idea if my application is any further along in the process, based on what is posted in my cra account I'd say it's gone backwards in progress from "you are eligible to claim the disability tax credit for 2015" to "we are processing...". Yay me for calling and having them check into that for me, looks like I've set the process backwards instead of forward. Sigh. As before, I will update as I receive new information.

    Another update:

I checked my CRA online account in the statement of account within the Child Tax Benefit area (not the disability tax credit area) and it shows a credit for 2015 for the CDB (Child Disability Benefit) underpayment. It also shows that the credit will be deposited to my bank account on Jan 20th. My February CTB does not include the CDB. I find it odd that this has been processed for 2015, but not for 2016 or for 2005-2014, I guess it's just a plodding process that eventually sorts itself out.

Plodding process indeed. :-( So now my CRA statement of account shows the under payments but then shows an overpayment for the exact same dates and shows I have, instead of a credit, a balance owing of the amount they originally showed as a credit. I hope this gets sorted out before the 20th, cuz I'd rather not have money deposited to my account that I then have to pay back. It's not a big deal, but I'd rather they just kept it. So... who knows what's going to happen next. I might call on Monday, or I might just wait until the eventually contact me. From reading other people's time lines I really had no idea this could become such a jumbled mess. Sigh.

    The umpteenth update:

My online CRA account statement shows that they will be deducting money from my Child Tax Benefit to recover the money they put into my account on Jan 20th. Lovely. I received a letter in the mail showing that I am eligible for the CDB and that they deposited the money into my account. I called CRA, they have no record showing they will be sending a letter that shows the deductions they will start taking off my CTB in February. I'm quite disappointed that they said I was eligible, deposited a large sum of money into my account and are now taking half of my usual CTB to correct their error. I asked if there was a way for me to return the money Ina lump sum, but they said they have no ability to recover the payment that way.

My Dr called me in to go over the clarification form with me. The questions were as others have stated in this thread, ten questions about how the disability effect daily living. For example (my wording not exactly as written on the questionnaire): "Is your patient able to make a simple purchase, show good judgement, make safe healthy choices. Yes or No If No please give an example."
My Dr answered No to almost all the questions, he wrote examples but I'm not sure what he wrote as I didn't see the form after it was filled out. My Dr said it would go in the afternoon mail so hopefully I will know in a few weeks whether or not I'm eligible.

I'm disappointed CRA said I was eligible for 2013-2015, sent back pay for 2013-2014 and then decided I might not be eligible and will be deducting money to collect their mistake. I'm also disappointed that CRA can't give me consistent information. The last agent I spoke to said he really didn't understand what was going on, that there is "implied approval" because the money and cooresponding letter of eligibility sent, but they haven't received the reply from my Dr yet so I shouldn't have yet been approved. The agent said it is very unusual that a repayment letter was not generated and mailed, that he had no way of triggering it to be sent, but that he hoped it would be sorted out and sent before they actually take money from my February child tax.

All I can say is what a confusing mess. No one I've spoken to has experienced this and CRA said they've never seen it before, yay me. Sigh. Well, fingers crossed I'm approved (again?) in a short period of time. I will update one final time once CRA sorts this out and finishes processing my application.

just to confirm you had previously been eligible right? Hard to follow this thread - I'm not clear on why you waited until the end of 2015 to get reapproved? When you are given an end date it makes little sense to allow that end date to expire by 2 years and then try again - it just confuses things. If you are reapproved make sure to apply prior to the end of year and def not years later.

Ds was reapproved in Dec - it wasnt as quick as I would have liked because of Dr failing to send followup but i started early so was unaffected - truth is there is no way for anyone here to know what's happening - it's a convoluted situation that you're in with cra, let's hope it gets resolved as painlessly as possible for you.. Hello again Banana If you would like to start a Disability Tax Credit Application go to this link:

    http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/t2201/README.html

Print it off. There are directions on it. That is your starting point. I have seen some with ADHD be approved for it and others not. IMO it depends on what your doctor writes and the person that gets the application and what kind of mood they are in that day. Discuss with the doctor filling it out and see if you can get a feel for how he/she feels about you receiving this credit and if they can write LEGIBLY and use language that an accountant can understand, not a doctor but at the same time have the 'official' diagnosis on it in case they have a specialist look at it on their end.

    Hi LisaLisaBoBisa,

I haven't been properly approved yet. I was approved, but it turned out that was a CRA error so they are now requiring repayment of the money the deposited in my account. CRA said they received the clarification questionnaire from my Dr Feb 16 and I should wait until March 29 before calling again if nothing has happened in the processing before then. I guess what happened is who ever processed it felt I was eligible for 2013-2014 and eligible to claim for 2015, but when I enquired why I was eligible for those years and not the preceding years they decided there had been an error and they would require repayment of the money they had already deposited to my account. One gentleman from CRA said there is "implied eligibility" and they are just waiting for the clarification letter to determine the number of retroactive years. I've just set the whole thing aside in my head, lol, they will eventually make a decision and I will be informed of what it is. In the meantime I am repaying the money the gave me in error.

I realize I've been very long winded in the timeline of my application, I hope it is in some way useful to others when they are curious about the process.

Well... after much waiting and oddities I've finally been approved to claim the disability tax credit for 2006-2016. I might request that they approve 2005 as wee, seeing as how originally they were processing 2005-2014 and I was already approved for 2015 and 2016. I won't bother to update that info here as I think I've given enough info about my time line for others seeking information, the rest will just be fine tuning.

This throws was such an amazing help to me, I hope I have left info here to help others with this process.
