I was just verbally attacked over a coupon!

I was just at FreshCo picking up a few things and was in line paying. The guy in front of me was trying to use coupons and the lady was telling him no because he had cut the coupon in half and it was missing information. He started to try to push his weight around with her so I said to him that I have the same coupon at home and that it is not a valid coupon because he has cut the coupon in half and was only presenting one half of the coupon (he cut off the part that specified what product in the product line the coupon was good for).
Well he did not like me coming to the defense of this cashier (that he was bullying) so he turned his abuse over to me and started calling me some very choice words (c***, a******, d*****, etc....I am sure you get the idea). Well I have never been one to stand by and let anyone treat another human being the way that he was treating her, so I kept at him until he just said screw it, the supervisor came over (who heard everything he said btw) and told him flat out NO. He did not get his products and left.....to which I made sure I told him to have a nice day and to get some therapy so he can deal with his anger towards women.

The cashier told me that I should watch what I say to guys like that....just because I am putting myself in harms way, and the manager made a comment about how he should have not been talking to me like that and basically said sorry.

I know the guy had 200 lbs on me and a foot and a half, but it felt good telling him.....bully!

I would have done the same thing as you. Coupons are getting hard enough to use without Boneheads like that messing things up. The manager was great saying sorry about that but it wasn't the manager's fault. Although the cashier was correct in telling you to beware of idiots likt that, I am the same way. I rather confront a guy no matter his size than a woman( they just freak me out). Good for you!

The store won't take half a five dollar bill - why would he think they would take half a coupon - Some people make me shake my head!!

I agree.
OP, you did not know his state of mind at the time and he may have wanted more pay back.
The cashier may have dealt with him before.

The store manager can ban him from the store if there is danger to customers and staff.

Good for you for speaking up. Ppl who try to use these coupons make it more difficult for us honest couponers, not to mention he should have never verbally abused you or the cashier. Life's too short..... (shaking head)

I know....thinking back on it, I thought about how this guy has probably been doing things like this his entire life, which is sad.

The situation did give me a different perspective on things, which I am glad that I now have.

I feel most sorry for this mans wife. As I was getting into my car, I noticed him getting into his with her (they were about the same age, so I am assuming the woman was his wife) and I felt a deep sense of empathy for this woman. She has probably been treated like this by this man her entire life, now that is what is truly sad.

Good for you for standing up for coupon users who use them properly and defending that cashier!

Unfortunately, there are some people who DO want pay back and will wait for others in the parking lot, so if the incident is witnessed, or you feel uncomfortable, ask the cashier to find some one or the manager to escort you to your vehicle!

@anisa and cally, about the cashier, a good one is trained how to spot coupon scammers. In another thread that went negative (expired now), I was trying to explain all the things that a good cashier knows how to handle in a shift.

With customers like this "gentleman", the cashiers get to know how to deal with them -- lots of practice.

You have to be Very Careful these days ! I took my son's dog to the Vet once, & she is a Lab she kind of pulled me off balance & I ended touching the Car infront of me & This Punk came Screaming out of the Vet that I Scracthed his Car ! I was Stunned, he screaming & screaming & Here me with a Dog. He Freaked me out so Bad I was Seriously Shaking like a Leaf. Finally I Contacted a family member who said tell him to F O take my plate # & report it to the Police & walk away. Which I did, I have Never in My Life had a Complete Stranger Verbally Attack me this way. He would have been in his mid 30's & his Father was even with him, he sure as hell wasn't stopping this Punk from verbally attacking me. I have learned a Lesson, the Hard way. Too many Weird people out there these days !

I don't use 1/2 coupons nor do I berate cashiers. However if someone stuck their nose in my transaction I wouldn't be impressed. Its the responsiblity of the store managment to handle problems that come up not the people in line. If the cashier's life or body was at risk, I could see getting involved.. in this case though I don't see it.. it really wasn't any of your business.

My business or not, I said something. I was the next person in line. I was indirectly exposed to this mans anger before I even said anything to him. If people do not want other people saying something about their behaviour and minding their own business, then maybe they should be better behaved in public. No one has the right to be talked to the way he was talking to her, or me after I said something to him. He was a bully and had no consideration or respect for anyone around him. I can sleep at night knowing that I did what I felt was right. Screaming and calling people C**** over 3 or 4 $1 coupons is pathetic.
