I bumped into the mail carrier as I was leaving for work today. She greeted me by name, which makes sense, she sees the mail everyday. Then she asked me if I wanted a "free makeover". I know I should have said no, but I am not good on the fly, so I said sure. So she wrote down my name and cell number (knew my last name too) and said she would call me. She's a Mary Kay consultant.
Then she says, "I have noticed you are receiving a lot of parcels lately, what's going on?" Uh, what? I told her I shop online a lot, which I do, plus all my freebies etc. But how is this her business? Is it strange she asked?
Ugh, and the makeover. Last thing I need is someone hounding me to buy Mary Kay, I all ready have the "Avon lady" at work. Now what do I tell her? I don't want to put her off, she delivers my mail! I feel like I have to sneak out of the house every day now to avoid her....

I'd contact her superiors, as I doubt they expect their workers to use their routes to generate an income with a second job.

IMO, she's seriously out of order, professionally.

I vote for 'over the line'. Not her business how many packages you get.

Gotta agree with DP, that's so weird and totally out of line.

If you are not good on the fly, it's o.k. to say, I'll get back to you. I'm in a hurry.

I wouldn't avoid her...if she questions when you would like said "makeover" just make something up about not having the time with work/kids etc etc then tell her when you do have more time you can always let her know to "reschedule" since she delivers your mail and you see her around anyway.
Then I would put in a complaint that she was soliciting a side business while on her mail route. I don't know if you can do those things anonymously but I would report.

Definitely report her. It is prohibited for a CPC employee to solicit their own business while performing duties for CPC.

ya i would say shes def out of line. Plus marykay people are bad enough with hounding and making you feel like you have to buy something but to have your mail lady be one and now trying to get extra customers is just seriously not ok.

Not good. If you report her, she won't be happy with you, but at the same point, what she's doing is just plain wrong. I would try and catch her next time she comes around and tell the truth. The exact same thing you said here. She caught you offguard, you don't do good on the fly, you already have an avon lady at work that always wants you to buy (and you could throw in a I don't ever purchase avon either) and you just don't have the money and time to go around. Hopefully she will realize that getting another client to follow up with constantly that won't buy things is just a waste of everyones time.

As for asking about the package, TOTALLY unprofessional! Again, you could tell her how you felt about that question (she possibly doesn't realize that she not your bff). Once she understands, if your mail starts to become sporatic or doesn't show up at all, then you HAVE TO call and report her. I just always believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice....shame on me!

I don't think she should've hit you up for Mary Kay.... However, her asking about the parcels wprolly ably her way of "small talk" or she's just generally curious.

Now that I think of it, this part would really annoy me. Maybe I'm weird but if you don't know me address me by my full name or by my last name with a Mr in front (irl). To me, using a first name implies familiarity. People assuming familiarity really off-put me. Hi, can I call you Dave? Cool. And I'll answer yes. Dave, do you like makeovers (without asking permission to use my first name)? Go f yourself.

That really bothers me too...especially if you don't really know the person, it kind of creeps me out to be honest.

While I know a lot of the PO counterstaff by name, I really don't know any of the mail-carriers.

If one was to say" Hello, Mrs Peguin" that's fine. But "Hello Darth"..nope.not without my permission. Heck, even children should know this.
