Gee, my two university convocations were boring.... Not this one at the U of T with a flashmob to honour the Chancellor!
    Were any SCers there?

After 6 distinguished years, the Honourable David R. Peterson's term as Chancellor of the University of Toronto will come to an end on June 30, 2012. Students from the Faculty of Music surprised him at his final Convocation ceremony with a flashmob tribute sung to the tune of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot".
“Farewell, dear chancellor, all your convocations are done,” went the first line of the song.

“I’ve changed my mind, I’m not leaving,” Peterson joked when the song ended.

Peterson told the Toronto Star that he was stunned by the emotional tribute. "I cried, I was moved, I was confused,” “Then I was sweating and crying, I didn’t know what was going on, I was so overwhelmed.”

(Michael Wilson will be the new Chancellor.)

One reason I thought this was exceptionally cool was that students 'knew' him on campus; he was involved in a lot of things - was known and beloved by students!

When I was at university, it seemed that the person in that position didn't mingle with students or was involved in student activities, really - either than any reps in the Senate, maybe.
I know who the chancellor was during the time I got my degrees in 1981 and 1986, it was Emmett Hall, who had become a member of the Supreme Court of Canada after being Chief Justice of SK. Never had any contact with him til convocation.

    Such a nice gesture.
And they say U of T is snobby -- not!
