Elaine Stritch dies aged 89
Legendary Broadway actress Elaine Stritch has died at her home in Michigan at age 89.
The Emmy and Tony winner was also known for her work in the 1970s television series Two's Company.
She recently had a recurring role on celebrated comedy 30 Rock and held a farewell concert tour in New York.
She retired to Birmingham, Michigan, after seven decades in the spotlight, suffering from diabetes and having recently broken her hip.
"I'm going to kind of take it easy," she said in 2013. "Every time I leave the building, I fall on my ass."
The actress and singer was known for her tart tongue and wry musings, as well as a penchant for cigarettes and alcohol.
She began her career in the 1940s, performing in a series of stage productions and eventually garnering five Tony nominations.
She also appeared in films, including Woody Allen's September and Small Time Crooks.
She admitted it would be difficult to bow out of the limelight during her farewell concert tour in April 2013.
"It's going to be hard to turn my back on you guys, for a little while at least. But I have to," she told a star-studded audience at the city's Cafe Carlyle that included Tom Hanks, Liza Minnelli and Tony Bennett.
"I've just got to take it easy," she added. "Wish me well and I'll do the same to you."

Elaine Stritch, the brassy, tart-tongued Broadway actress and singer who became a living emblem of show business durability and perhaps the leading interpreter of Stephen Sondheim’s wryly acrid musings on aging, died on Thursday at her home in Birmingham, Mich. She was 89.
Ms. Stritch’s career began in the 1940s and spanned almost 70 years. She made her fair share of appearances in movies, including Woody Allen’s “September” (1987) and “Small Time Crooks” (2000), and on television; well into her 80s, she had a recurring role on the NBC comedy “30 Rock” as the domineering mother of the television executive played by Alec Baldwin.
But the stage was her true professional home. Whether in musicals, nonmusical dramas or solo cabaret shows, she drew audiences to her with her whiskey voice, her seen-it-all manner and the blunt charisma of a star.

I am so upset that I totally missed the news about James Garner!!! I was wrapped up in painting here at the time. Never even watched the news on tv for days on end.
James Garner was my BIG crush!! Gawd! I adored his looks and his acting. So sad we have lost him.

I could barely watch
The Texas Chain Saw movie when it first came out, however, the actress that played the only survivor in that flick was found dead today. She was 65 years old, Marilyn Burns.

Marilyn Burns in 1974's "Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
Texas Chainsaw Massacre star Marilyn Burns has died. She was 65.
Burns was found dead in her Houston, Texas home by a family member on Tuesday, and her representative tells TMZ.com an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
Burns made her film debut in director Robert Altman's Brewster McCloud while she was still attending the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with a drama degree in 1971.
However, it was her role as the sole survivor and heroine Sally Hardesty in the 1974 horror film that made her a cult superstar. She also made subsequent cameos in the 1994 and 2013 reboots of the popular franchise.
Burns also starred in 1977's Eaten Alive opposite Robert Englund and the 1976 Emmy-nominated miniseries Helter Skelter, about the real-life trial of Charles Manson.Last edited by walkonby; Wed, Aug 6th, 2014 at 02:51 PM.

This brought me back...
Charles Keating - I knew him best as Carl Hutchins on "Another World", passed away at 72.
One of Rachel's many husbands...
Born in London, England, Keating worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon before segueing into television via series such as Life and Death of Penelope, Crown Court and Brideshead Revisited. He played AW‘s Carl off and on from 1983 to 1999, and also appeared on the daytime dramas All My Children (as Dr. Damon Lazarre), As the World Turns (as Niles Mason) and Port Charles (as James Ritchfield).
Keating’s TV credits also include episodes of Alias, Xena, Sex and the City and The Equalizer, while on the big screen he appeared in such films as The Bodyguard and The Thomas Crown Affair.

Robin Williams
Actor-comedian Robin Williams was found dead on Monday at his home in Northern California from an apparent suicide, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said. He was 63.
The sheriff's coroner's division said it suspects the death was a suicide due to asphyxia, but said the cause of death is still under investigation.
Williams shot to fame through his stand-up comedy and first starring role in the Happy Days spin-off, Mork & Mindy.
