Canadian country music icon Ronnie Prophet dead at 80



Prophet recorded more than 25 albums and charted five singles during the 1970s on the Billboard Country charts, collecting accolades including the country male vocalist of the year Juno award in 1978 and 1979.
The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame member was born in Hawkesbury, Ont., and raised in Calumet, Que., and began his career at age 15 in Ottawa before moving to Montreal to sing in various nightclubs.

Prophet rose to fame in the 1970s, when the multifacted entertainer hosted a series of country music programs for CBC-TV and CTV. Shows like his namesake The Ronnie Prophet Show mixed music with impersonations and comedy, while also welcoming popular country performers of the day such as Crystal Gayle, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams Jr., George Jones and Don Everly.


He continued his successful recording career through the 1980s, ultimately releasing more than two dozen albums and earning two Juno Awards as well as accolades from the Canadian Country Music Association and the Big Country Awards.
He was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, with Terri Clark honouring him in a tribute as "a showman, a gentleman, a true Canadian treasure."

‘M*A*S*H’ Star David Ogden Stiers Dead at 75 After Battling Cancer

David Odgen Stiers, who played M*A*S*H‘s Major Charles Emerson Winchester III died on Saturday, March 3, at the age of 75.

Stiers scored two Emmy nominations for his role in the Korean War series after joining the show in 1977 when Larry Linville, who played Frank Burns, left the series. He remained with the show until it ended in 1983.

He also starred in series including The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Charlie’s Angels, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Frasier, and voiced characters in Disney movies including 1991’s Beauty and the Beast (as Cogsworth), Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Lilo & Stitch.

Winnie Madikizela Mandela was the former wife of South Africa's first black president, Nelson Mandela.

At the height of its syndication in the '90s, the show could be found on roughly 500 North American radio stations, with its broadcast originating from KNYE 95.1 FM in Bell's remote hometown of Pahrump, Nevada.



The radio personality, born in 1945 in North Carolina, was the pioneering host of Coast to Coast AM, a heavily syndicated late-night radio show themed around the paranormal—ghost stories, alien abductions, and all manners of wild conspiracy theories. Founded in 1988, the show ran under Bell’s direction until he retired completely in 2007.
