I am just curious as to how much the average family of four spends weekly on groceries?
I would like to get mine down to $100 a week but don't really know if that is realistic. I have only been couponing since the beginning of January and our average so far is about $120 a week. We are still saving money as that figure is down from what we were spending before.
How about you? This thread is currently associated with: N/ATrade List /Wishlist: http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/382792-dreamcatcher1962s-trade-wish-lists-canada/#post5928904

we have 3 kids and then mom and dad and we spend about 90$ weekly on groceries. It also helps that the baby is now off formula so saves money.

some good tips: We never buy fresh produce if it is more than 2$, We dont buy bread at all. we do buy alot of ground beef cuz it is cheap and you can make so many dishes with it. Depending on how much we have run out of that week i may buy powered milk instead of liquid which is about 3 bucks but lasts about a month. if yogurt is over 3$ We wont get it. We never buy chips or crackers or what not, Because it is expensive and we dont need it. we dont buy pre made food. Every thing is made from scratch. And things like spices, and noodles we will either get from the dollar store or buy in bulk when there is a huge sale. Hope that helped.

It will really depend on the kinds of food you eat and if there are coupons for them
This week for us, it was
- Quinoa 378g for $2.58 (750g at Sobeys last week was $10.99)
- Chicken drumsticks (10) $3.78
- Chicken Thighs (4) x 2 at $2.12 and $2.13
- Beef stir fry strips $3.02
- Mushrooms $3.18
- Broccoli $1.49
- Peppers $3.22
- Green Beans $1.17
- Eggs x 2 $1.69 – $2 WUB2 = $0.69 each
- Wonder Simply Free Bread $1.99 – $0.75 = $1.24
- 20lbs potatoes $3.47
- Milk $4.99
- Aylmers Tomatoes 4/$5 - $1 WUB2 = $0.75 each
- Tropicana $3
- Olive Oil $3.49 (clearance)
- Cereal $4
- Cookies 2/$5
- 4 x Nature Valley Bars $1 - 0.99 = $0.01
- Hot Chocolate $3.99 - $1 = $2.99
- Bag Fries $1.99
We were given a $25 GC from renewing our newspaper subscription so $25 of that $60 or so paid for that and we are about $37 out of pocket but we have a decent stockpile of pantry goods (stocks, rice etc)

Thanks for the tips.
I am still working on building the stockpile, but I am sure it will work out in the long run.Trade List /Wishlist: http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/382792-dreamcatcher1962s-trade-wish-lists-canada/#post5928904

Family of 4 with 2 teenage boys, i spend $135.00 a week, I make 3 lunches everyday, and I cook dinner everynight, I bake cookies and muffins and loafs and we always have lots of fruits and veggies. Milk is $3.89 to $4.29 a jug. I also buy bottles water for them to take instead of juice boxes ($1.98 for 24). I did stock up on the soup and crackers when they are on sale, that way I can do a soup night , and I also plan my meals ahead of time, I can get very creative with leftovers.

$50 for the 3 of us, but my MIL buys Luna's formula.
I stock up when meat goes on sale, and cut the roasts into steaks or strips for stir-fry, stock up on ground beef and make spaghetti, Hamburger Helper, Manwich, chili, etc. I wait until bread is $1.99 or less, and use coupons... I get my pasta on sale, same for kidney beans and rice.
That's about it.
I have a nice stockpile right now...except for tomato paste. And I'm finally running low on Ragu.

Well so far i'm the highest. We budget $150 per week for a Family of 4.
We eat alot of fresh fruit (alot). My budjeting is changing for us with couponing now - so i have cases of soup and mac and cheese.
to save $$$ I have stoped buying bread (i have had a bread maker for 10 years and i haven't used it in 5 years so no more bought bread.) I was paying over $3.00 a loaf
We eat alot of Organic Food - eggs $6, not very many organic coupons out there - I did email Amy's Organic and got some great coupons and a few free items.
To save $$ i buy a 1/4 beef every year (i like knowing whats in it and how the animal was treated - and i think it tastes better.)

For my family, it varies from week to week, sometimes I may spend $50, sometimes I might spend $110. I find it all depends on how well I stock pile certain things such as cereal, and such.

Thanks for sharing everyone. I just started keeping receipts and paying attention, but I will aspire to your great (frugal) standards! Thanks again.

for a family of 6 - 4 kids 2 adults we spend 170 per week including meat- but excluding milk and eggs. I make everything from scratch except pasta and pasta sauce on pasta nigts and taco shells on taco night. 170 per week includes all the lunches, breakfasts and dinners! I keep away from anything premade, so that leaves more space for fresh produce.
