Just sat down with the family to watch a movie I paid $20 for. My daughter opened it to put it in the machine. It's a Blu Ray.... our machine is not.
Don't know if I'm more p*&s%d that I can't return it because it is open or because now we can't watch Bridesmaids (which I am told is a good movie!)

Didn't you know it was a Blu-ray disc when you bought the it? I imagine it would say on the disc cover if it's a blu-ray or regular dvd.

You know... blu-ray has never registered in my brain. A DVD is a DVD in my world so I never thought to look.... until after we opened it..... and saw the thin ticker tape at the top of the label that reads Blu-ray. Ugh !!!

That sucks!
I just purchased a Sony PS3 last SDM redemtion for this reason (we accidently bought a blu ray and once opened it can't be returned :-( ) so we researched it and the PS3 will play more different media types than any other system, it costs me $80, it would have been less had I waited two weeks for the mega redemtion.

That movie is sooooo hilarious! I was dying laughing the whole way through!
I almost bought a blue ray yesterday, luckily caught myself before checking out.

Lucky...looks like you're going to have to buy a PS3 now! j/k
BluRay players have really gone down in price, but I would never buy one just to play a few of these movies. Bummer that you bought the wrong format. Can you reserve a copy of the DVD at the library?

Oh that's sucky when you buy something and then later realize its not actually what you wanted to buy. I always feel like kicking myself afterwards. Cursing myself saying "why didn't I just pay more attention or look closer at it before buying it"

The worst part of it all is that you were looking forward to sitting down and enjoying the movie

OP I could tell you all about the movie Bridesmaids if you like?

No, sorry, it does happen. We are expected to read every single detail ( nutritional labels, best before dates ) of everything these days or pay the price later.
I'm sure there will be a solution to this though.
Hope you get to lol at the movie eventually
