I was just wondering if any one has been able to claim the maximum value of a coupon and have the overage applied to the rest of the order?
Eg. I buy product X for $3.29
I have a coupon with a maximum value of $4.50
Can the cashier enter the value of $4.50 and apply the $1.21 to the rest of my bill.
Ive had it done at Walmart before, but not yesterday, so just wondering what the coupon etiquette is on this! ThanksThis thread is currently associated with: Walmart

Unless the coupon specifically states $4.50 off, I've never had that happen.

If a cashier did that they made a mistake. It is only good for the value of the product not the Max. Value
I am currently looking for coupons for non parishable foods or grocery coupons good until December to help with Christmas food helpers.
If you have any to trade please PM me.

It actually depends on the coupon wording and the policy of the store. Some stores automatically mark down the value of all coupons (Freshco) but others allow overage where applicable (walmart). If the coupon says "save up to max value of $4.50" then you don't get overage. If the coupon says "save $4.50 when you buy" then you would get the overage applied to your bill. A good example is the $3.00 Nexxus coupons. You can buy a $2 travel size bottle but the coupon says you save $3, not up to $3 so you would get the overage at stores that allow it. It can be tricky sometimes.
edited to add: I re-read your post and I see that it was a max value coupon, which is usually a FPC. You don't get overage on those

WM & GT will most always give you full coupon value.
Zantac 3pk @ WM is $2.22 coupon is $3.00 = OV of $0.78
Now I've had sitautions where I've reedeemed for a FPC
IE WUB Hamburger Helper G1 GG Frz Veggies FREE max value was $3.49 (close to that)
and WM had the GG Frz Veggies on for $2.49 i was given the coupon Max Value
Any other store would more than likely give exact credit.

Thats what happened to me before too, I just wanted to check! I've had FPCs with a max value, but the Walmart price was less. The cashier filled in the seling price as the max value, and the overage went to the rest of the transaction. Eg the protein bar was up to $2.49' but when I bought it, it was only $1.50. Basically I got $1.00 overage.
Was she wrong in entering it this way? Especially when the manufacture put a limit on what they would reimburse?

Yes she was wrong to enter the max value FPC as overage
They are always an "up to max value" situation where you get only the value of your item. Any coupon where the item amount needs to be marked on a line, will never give you overage since the retailer will only be reimbursed the amount the cashier wrote there, which should just be the selling price. I wouldn't argue with overage though if it was give to me haha
FPC vouchers are different, like the $5 chapmans voucher. They allow $5.00 of chapman's products, not up to $5 so you will always get the overage, unless you use it at freshco like I did. They marked mine down, the nerve of them LOL.

I'm sure alot of cashiers have made the mistake of entering the max value but if they do it is a mistake. Please don't start to expect it or argue with cashiers.
Coupons that say "max value" are replacement product coupons which are meant for you to replace a product not replace the product + benefit. Abusing this could lead to companies not offering replacement products when consumers have an issueI am currently looking for coupons for non parishable foods or grocery coupons good until December to help with Christmas food helpers.

Oh no, I wouldn't argue about it! It was just a little confusing as it was at the same Walmart' 3 weeks apart. One girl did and the other didn't. Sometimes it's just confusing, because you're never quite sure if they are making up the rules as they go!
I just wish they would decide and train all the cashiers the same! But that's a rant for a different part of the forum...
Thanks for all your input!
