The invention made in 1963 by famous physicist Higgs Boson has been proven right and recognized worldwide in July, 2012. The invention is about a Particle in a matter, which carries weight and has the property to bring other protons, neutrons, hadrons, etc., to form a specific shape which has weight and occupies space. This means anything could be made weightless by extracting that single type of particle from a given substance hereafter . Though the object of invention is termed as "God's particle" but it is used as a tool by the scientist to say the God does not exist.

Is this a discussion on physics, or religion? The two are mutually exclusive.

All science is hypotheses and then finding support for those claims. So Higgs and co-workers theorized the existence of this particle back in the 60's, but not until now, with the major advancements in particle accelerators, was there able to be experimental support for Higgs particles.

Now, I will say this, as an overall preamble for science research in general... it's a back and forth game generally. No one proves anything. It is statements and theories supported by fact and experimentation that could possibly be wrongly analysed, shown to be incorrect by another research group two months from now, or twenty years from now. Research and discoveries are a fluid thing. On the other hand (specifically to this, not just science in general) it could totally be the existence of Higgs particles and this is a huge discovery. I'm not sure we have enough information to make that call yet.

His theory is 40 years old but only now have they been able to "prove" it.

They need to stop calling it the god particle and give it, it's due name Higgs Boson particle.

As a research scientist, I would find it absolutely maddening to have theorized something, have it known by my name in my related field and then not even have a slight "claim" to it once the mass media grabbed onto it.

**edit** perhaps I am just an egotistical scientist who wants all the glory

I watched the coverage as it was announced at the beginning of the month, and think it's absolutely fabulous!

He darned well better get the Nobel prize in Physics for this!

And, haha, I just love that Stephen Hawking lost the bet!

Thank goodness for the work they do at CERN/LHC - so many people will be helped through the work they are doing.

I know even here in Saskatoon, where we have the Canadian Light Source at the University of Saskatchewan, it's the only synchrotron in Canada - one of only just over 40 in the world, scientists from all over the world book time on the beam lines to do research. It's quite fascinating.

    more info for the nerds

They are definitely not exclusive. If you believe in a creator, why not appreciate the brilliance of what has been created? Moons orbit planets, planets orbit stars, stars orbit the centers of spiral galaxies. I'm no physicist, but I think it's awesome that people are figuring out how the universe works on a small scale. The universe is amazingly complex and beautiful, whether it came from creation or evolution, nobody should ignore reality.

I agree nobody should ignore reality. Physics is reality. Religion... not so much. After all there are thousands of different religions and sects, each with their own version of reality as they believe it to be.

Well it's not really the God Particle, when Leon Lederman wrote his book about the particle, he wanted to call it the Goddamn Particle because it's so annoying to find but the publisher wouldn't let him so he had to change it. Kind of funny

Here's a topic that I'm sure Sheldon and Momma Cooper would love to have an argument on haha (From Big Bang Theory)
