I agree with K8 and the others, it's nice for the blogger to give credit where credit is due

If both posts are the same, I guess I just don't really see the importance of giving the OP credit. This isn't an essay, university paper, or other academic paper.

But the two posts are the same because a member of SC posts a deal on the deal forum, and then if it's deemed worthy (kidding, I don't know what the deciding factors are for a deal to make the front page of the blog), it might be posted on the main blog page. So it would make sense to give a shout out to the person who originally posted the deal in the forums.

I think limiting the concept of giving credit solely to paper-writing/the world of academia is somewhat of a constricted point of view.

The whole point of giving credit is to acknowledge that an idea didn't originate from you. When you cite a source on a paper, you're acknowledging that the idea/theory came from someone else, and you are simply incorporating that idea into your work. Failing to do so is plagiarism.

When you give credit on a site like SC, you're acknowledging that the deal was posted by someone else. Failing to do so won't result in any kind of penalty, but it will probably make the original forum poster feel somewhat wronged. I know this thread has pointed out that sometimes, the author of the blog post, and the person who posted on the forums, may have both received an email with the same deal - in which case, it's hard to say that credit should be given to the forum-poster, because the blog-writer may have not seen the original forum post. But of course this can be avoided by quickly scanning the first page of the forums for a deal that might have been posted, before making a blog post about it - just to make sure the forum-poster (OP) feels like their contribution was valued, and they continue to post other deals.

It's just an acknowledgement thing/informal way of saying thanks. And like another post mentioned, it's easier to give reps/likes to the original poster if credit is given.

Here's where I confess that I never read the SC blog. I only come here for the forums and all the wonderful folks who've helped me so much with learning how to save a bundle through coupons and smart shopping. Given all that the forums have, why would I search out the blog? ;-)

If I get it from the forum, I do give credit but often we see it on facebook or whatever - we don't search the forums to see if someone else posted it

I think they are posting some stuff again for newbies. Not everyone was around in 2011 or 2008. Can't hurt to repost an ongoing deal as some people may have missed it. My opinion

I think posting stuff on the blog is fine. It just seems like very few forum posts get the credit like they used to. It's obvious the posts that are found through mass emails, or on social media sites, but credit should always be given the one's that are only found in the forums. An example is how Anne always gives credit to first the flyer posters in the blog.

thats fine taking old info of ongoing promos and reposting it without giving credit.. i'm talking about situations where.. say i post a good deal that i personally found (not on a forum find) on a local facebook group... then 15 min later she has the exact same deal posting on her blog then posts the link to her blog on all the other facebook groups.. if this happened once i'd say hey coincidence.. BUT when it happens constantly it's very frustrating.. i've had to take posting whatever i find on every group i'm part of to stop this.. i like to share the deals that i find with others but it's frustrating when someone is constantly taking credit for the work i do and trying to profit off it (many blogs have ads, ads make them money)
