Good morning!
Interesting event at camp: 3 lectures Saturday morning in the rec hall!
The first by an entomologist a retired prof from Laurentian university and who also has an rv at our park, giving a talk on the 'bugs' that inhabit the area, then another prof presently teaching at Laurentian spoke about native frogs, the last, a brilliant senior student, spoke about snakes and had one for everyone to pet.
Then everyone one went to the east shore which is a great habitat for critters, and helped all the kids and grown-ups identify them. The student found a huge snapping turtle! Our Grandson, 8 yrs old, sat thru all the lectures and asked questions and had a great time at the shore!
I just thought how great that this was organized for everyone!!
Have a great day, everyone!!
@22hicks , this one's for you..and anyone else who loves oatmeal/raisin cookies..:)
Stella's Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

2 eggs

In a mixer, beat butter until smooth, then add sugar and combine for one minute.
Beat in one egg at a time.
Combine in a separate bowl, the flour, bp,bs, salt and oats.
Mix dry ingredients into the wet.
Using a spatula or spoon, add the nuts *if using, and raisins.

When our kids were young, we went to all kinds of those nature presentations. Not only were they great, and informative, but we all learned something, and helped us appreciate the world around us.
At our cottage, we had some very large snapping turtles. Here's a pic of one of them. He was always hanging around the boat, hoping to steal one of the fish we were catching. In the 2nd one, you get a better idea of his size; his head's out of the water, but @ the top of the pic, is the tip of his back. He was approx. 20" long. (just an estimate, we never measured, but should have)
The last one, is another, smaller turtle.

Oh, as an aside, you can tell the males from the females by their claws. The male has very long front claws, so he can grip, and hold onto the female, for mating. Otherwise, he'd slip off her back.
@22hicks I thought you were talking about telling me and Dan apart from you guys lol. ;)
