Some schools won't allow soy spread because it 'looks' like real PB, then kids might get complacent if they see others with it, mistakenly thinking it's okay to bring PB. Just so a mistake doesn't get made...

When my son was in elementary school, there was a nut and seed ban - were able to use soy butter though, but he wasn't a big fan. There are so many other options for lunch, it was just fine.
However, I had more difficulty because I baked all our cookies, squares, etc. - and frequently used PB, nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. so I found that more of a pain to just make other stuff.
