and I SO enjoyed that 5 minute break ^ LOL...
have a good week off Dan. enjoy your 'staycation'. off to get a few more things done today. feeling quite accomplished so far.
I get it Nat....I so understand, it reminds me of Thanksgiving a bit. Where you would take your basket to be Bless. I know it should never be about someone else basket, but people are human, and they just can't help themselves but be nosy sometimes. So you always want to make sure that the basket you take looks really good. That way you'll give them something "good" to say.
This is just too cool not to share

Enjoy you week Dan!
Happy weekend everyone!
I'm glad someone understands, I didn't want it to sound odd... It's our tradition, and it's a source of pride - especially for me, to make a basket similar to how my mom did; I'm just happy to be able to carry it on.
The families take the baskets to church to have them blessed - they have tables set up in the basement auditorium. There is a short service, then as the priest goes around sprinkling holy water on each basket to bless it, everyone sings. This used to be done in the church itself, lined up at the front by the altar or alongside the pews, but that ends up not being a good idea because each basket has a lit candle, so it became a matter of safety. However, it's quite the sight to see them all like that!
Well, my husband bought a wonderful ham, so I'm heading off now to make a glaze and get that in the oven. Then, on to make soup for supper.
Turns out the 'flat' Babka bread tastes totally fine - so it wasn't a problem with yeast or anything that made it fall; I'll probably try another batch tomorrow.
Hoping everyone has a great evening! :)
Happy Easter Natalka! And weekend everyone else.
This is my new shirt I ordered from Etsy that arrived yesterday.

We would have had some competition here, Natalka....NOT that it was a competition, but I remember my Mom making her breads to be blessed. Our church didn't have baskets, just the breads were held on embroidered cloths...so beautiful.
I'm baking my paskas tomorrow...and probably some cinnamon rolls, too! :)
Happy Easter, Hon!

So it's very much like my thanksgiving, where we take our harvest in a basket to the altar to have it bless.
The bread tomorrow will turn out fine...I have faith in you :smile1:.
If not put stuff around it or till it or something, so that it looks goods, you already know that it tastes great, you just need it to look good for the blessing...It will be fine :smile1:.
