Yep, I heard that, Sunshine! :)
I know what you mean; I always say I'll cut back next year, not do so much....but I'm just kidding myself. I really do love to bake, cook and feed people...maybe I should have had my own bistro...!
'Night, everyone...sweet dreams!

can anyone tell me.. i made cabbage rolls with my mom.. using 3 different meats... and after cooking them for like 6 hours.. parts of them are still looking 'raw'. im not sure if they are done.. they look done.. taste great..but too afraid to dive in just in case.
-
Did you cook the meat/rice combination beforehand...? Before forming the cabbage rolls? That's the way to do them...everything should be cooked before baking them to soften the cabbage and melding the flavours, so nothing should be raw...certainly not after 6 hours...Natalka can help you with this. I've made them in the past...now, because of my arthritis, I make layered (fake) cabbage rolls. Same ingredients, same flavours, only layered instead of rolled...hth...

MrsS - hope they ended up cooked and alright - that was a lot of hours of cooking, even if the meat was raw and you made the German type which are rather large, with more meat than rice...
I just blanched my leaves yesterday and put them to freeze - I'll make mine on the 24th.

Hoping everyone has a FAB day! :)

MrsS - I just read in the dinner thread that you do the rolls on top of the stove - can't help you there, then, I've never done them that way. I always do them in a roaster in the oven - a medium roaster gets done in about three hours at 350.

I hope the holiday season is finding you all happy and healthy. I haven't been around much been super busy gettiiing ready for Christmas, entertaining ect. I hope to pop in more often soon :-). Missing all of my SC family

thanks you guys... we did them from raw (im going to suggest cooking them first before assembly next time) then rolled them.. then she sent me home with a batch, i had it in the fridge a couple of days then stuck them in the oven or about 4 hours.. then in a pot again last night for another hour..they still look pinkish in places.
i ate one last night.. i dont' think they are good anymore.. im going to throw them out.
will see how moms are. she cooked hers that day..
i feel bad throwing them out. but after how i felt last night...i don't want to chance making my family sick for xmas.
well.. Dad's doing well.. yay. praying his recovery continues successfully.
we were supposed to get ice rain. but thinking we ducked it.. doesn't look that bad out. can't say the same for the rest of the world.

Hi All,
Just stopping by to say a quick "hello".
I've been without power since last night, and just got it back this evening.
But I don't know for how long, as they say to expect it to get worse as the winds pick up tonight, as there is a possibility that it might go out again.
Just wanted to check in, hoping everyone is safe.
Take care all.

Good morning, all!
A late start to posting here, though I've been up since 4 - so nice to sleep that long!
I've been busy prepping stuff for baking.
Yeah, worst thing for me was misplacing a day - I guess it's from everyone saying Christmas is Wednesday, so that got stuck in my head, BUT only thing is we do everything on Christmas Eve, so I need to be ready for tomorrow!
Had an awesome visit with my sweet little (LOL) Milan last night; husband went above and beyond making amazing schnitzel for us! I helped him prep, and made all the sides - what a fab meal it was! Milan was pretty happy there were even leftovers, which I packed up for him.
I'll do some baking this morning - cheesecake squares, magic cookie bars, butter tarts (some with raisins and walnuts, others with walnuts and coconut since I don't like raisins), and shortbread spritz cookies.
I was hoping to make khrustyky (fried pastries), but don't think I'll get to them.

Wow, busy bunch with not many posting....
I'm having a break while husband is out doing some grocery shopping.
I did lots of baking today, and my back/hips/feet/hands/arms (oy, lol!) are sure all feeling it....
Some of you might remember I had a situation earlier this year on SC when I posted a normal, ordinary pic and when others saw it it was a rude pic - well, it happened again, on a thread I started about Christmas dinner.
Anyone have any clues about this?
Last time it happened, I pretty much stopped posting pics for the longest time, and when I did, then I would double check them in IE, since I normally use FF.
Gah, the stupid idiots who hack stuff like this - don't they have better things to do with their time? I mean who would think of turning innocent pics of turkey dinners into gross stuff?

:wave2: Good morning!
Busy day for me, today, as I prep for Christmas Eve supper. This morning, I'll be making cabbage rolls, doing some baking, making chocolates - and getting the house in some semblance of order for tonight.
