Little bit of ratty goodness that totally made my day

Short background--

I absolutely hate rodents. Hate them.

One day I went into the pet store to get food for my daughter's mouse (shudder) and there was a little girl (about 10) holding a big fat rat. Of course she holds it out to me to hold and not wanting to be the grown up who looked like an idiot I took it and held it. Well this big fat rat snuggled me! And of course won me over completely. So (because I have two children 8 and 2) I ordered two baby rats (so they can grow with the kids and not bite them) and bought a cage on the spot. They came and I was very very happy with them. We named them Max and Fink.

They got along and were wonderful, although my rat Max (the other is my fiance's) was slightly introverted and anti social. One morning (not long after buying them) I woke up to see that Max had had a stroke and he was beyond repair. He passed. Of course the other rat became very sad and lonely very quickly. I was a sobbing mess. It was a bad scene. This happened approx two weeks ago.

Today I went back to the pet store and was chatting with the owner about what had happened to my dear Max. He led me over to the rat cage and told me to pick whichever one I wanted!! So basically my brag is about this wonderful pet shop owner making me so happy What a wonderfully sweet man. I know rats are not expensive or anything, but with how awful I felt about the entire thing it totally made my day.

My new rat is cashmere gray and I have named him Christian for that reason (50 shades girls 50 shades) and I am sooo soo happy

This is Fink and Max. The gray faced one is Fink, Max is the one who passed. Such awesome little guys

I am so sorry for your loss. Very happy that the pet shop gave you a new one. I am not a rodent person. I have a friend who has a few and I must admit they are fun to watch. Enjoy your new pets!

aw they are cute. I had rats when I was younger, all my friends disliked them but I loved them. If you put a litter box in their cage they will use it. They are so smart.

we have the cages beside each other and have been bringing them each into contact with the other. today we will put them together for a bit and see. but so far they seem to like each other.
