We had a perfectly lovely afternoon. Dh, db and I headed to Windsor (the closest Costco) and joined. We've been punting around the idea for a while.
I was very happy with the purchases (We didn't go wild) -
We needed to replace our duvet after my dear doggie had a gastric accident on our other one. I washed it twice - hung it outside in the sun, but it still smelled awful.
It had lost most of the feathers in most of the "cells" except for the ones at the bottom (this was before the accident) so I had been thinking of replacing it. Anyway - long story short - we bought a human-made duvet - stuffed with hypoalergenic wicking lining and you can wash it! $69.99 - I hadn't checked but I was estimating at least $40 - $50 to get the old one cleaned so I'm happy. We'll see tonight if it keeps us warm (supposed to really cool off tonight.)
Also got 2 big mum plants (my summer pots are looking bedraggled) We got a number of other things - but what I realize is that I need a whole new set of knowledge about what's a good deal. Next time I'll take my calculator.

We had a membership and went to the Windsor one a few times, other then Ground Beef, roast and occasionally bread/buns & chips in the 2 pack, we never bought much. You have to be careful with groceries, yeah they do have bigger sizes but if you work out the cost, generally it's not much better I find, and prices can really add up. We let the membership lapse, although as finances get better for us, I'm sure we will sign up again.

i've always had a love/hate with costco. we'll get a membership cause they have really cool merch' and i love that place at chirstmas time! but when it comes to groceries, it's so easy to spend $200 bucks and walk out with just ketchup, trailmix and pickles (ok im exagerating, but you catch my drift )

I was a member in the past when I was single and remember once buying 50lb. of rice - now it's that kind of thinking that I have to resist! I think I still have about a lb. left and I've been married for 8 years! LOL!

We buy pretty much all our meat there. We also buy the huge block of cheese I think it's about 2 KG, socks, some clothes.
We used to buy almost everything there before I started couponing but we've seriously cut back on our shopping there now.RLF Honey Bunches of Oats $1.00

I love Costco! Some of their prices can't be beat, the quality is excellent and their return policy can't be beat. I always get
spices
clothes (esp. yoga pants, they are cut from the exact same pattern as that other very expensive brand, now I just have to start actually doing yoga now that I have 5 pairs of pants)
the meat quality is amazing
vitamins
dill pickles (they have the jars of baby dills, super crunchy and price can't be beat)
farmer's double smoked sausage
perogies (Naleway brand and the highest quality ones are made for Costco according to the president of Naleway)
Kirkland iced tea powder (unless I have FPC's for another brand)
the list goes on and on....
My brother is a manager at one and always watch for prices that end in $.97, that means it has been marked down. That is also how I know about the yoga pants pattern...
Oh! And if you upgrade to the executive membership which runs for about $100/year, you get 2% back on all purchases, and if you don't spend enough to make up the difference with your 2%, they will refund you the difference. At least they used to....Last edited by schwarzie; Wed, Sep 19th, 2012 at 08:37 PM.

I'm getting more and more excited! Someone mentioned glasses - mine are always EXTREMELY expensive - just bought some though so it will have to wait 2 years until my insurance covers it again.

I love Costco! My membership expired a few years ago and I did not renew. They have a fantastic return policy. Best deal I found was on tires and glasses. I always leave with way more than I planned. Enjoy your membership!
