Here's a few tools / ways that have been shared over the years on SC to track savings.
- pen and paper works for some - write the amount saved on each bill, total up at month end
- schpooh wrote "I just use Word and keep track of everything monthly as well as using my tracker that you can see for my signature"
- liezlranoy posted this: uses Facebook; not sure if it works well in Canada or not; more info here:http:///h4zCf
- Integrated with Household Budget --"If you are tracking your grocery expenses with a household budgeting software or accounting system, this is how you do it." Monroe Blog
- Another spreadsheet template from The Coupon Project
One of the most popular coupon tracking spreadsheets was made by DH666 - but the latest thread and links seem to be expired/gone.
I found the links to on e of DH666's Excel Savings Calculator here - not sure if it's up to date though. It includes a way for you to track reward points/$$ like Air Miles, HBC, Optimum.
But what do you track as savings? What matters to you?
Do you track the total saved from coupons only or coupons and sales?
Everyone does it differently. Pick what works for you. I like to focus on what are my REAL SAVINGS. For me that means money that I saved now shopping like I always do and have in my pocket or the bank. I liked to buy on sales so if it's an item I'm stockpiling, I know I would have waited for a sale. So I only count the coupon.
But there are fuzzy areas -- Price Matching for example. I didn't do that at all and I wouldn't have made a special trip to Walmart and sometimes they have the lowest price you'll ever find.
The stores I shop at change the price every week it seems based so when they say "sale" - $3 off it's because they boosted the price to look better.
Here's what my friend Tripsplanner said about tracking savings:
Saving trackers - when I first started, I used to put aside the equivalent $$$ amount in coupons used. E.g. if I used $3 of coupons, I put $3 cash away in my piggy bank. For me it felt more real as I have always treated coupon as 'free money'. After a while I stopped, especially now that using coupon has become a way of life for me.
I know there are other couponers who put their savings into an account to pay for the Disney holiday or the new fridge. Some are paying down the debt asap.
How to Show Your Savings in Your Signature on Smart Canucks

Many people use TickerFactory.com to show a progress meter on savings in their signature. Here is courtreporter's description of how to set it up:
Quote:
Coupon Ticker to track how much you save <hr style="color: rgb(227, 227, 227); background-color: rgb(227, 227, 227);" size="1"> http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticke...r_designer.php
Scroll down and under debt reductions/saving, click on Saving Ticker and go from there. Pick your own design. Very easy to do.
Then copy the link after you are finished and put it in your signature here and keep track of all your coupon savings.
When you want to update it, you might be able to click on it from here. It won't let me do it on this site, but if it doesn't you can just go to tickerfactory.ca and update from there and it will automatically change the information here.{/quote]
Something I have heard happens on SC but not sure about 2011
I think there's a thread on SC where people post their saving goals in January and track it to the then, and then there's a draw. I'm not sure where it is, but I'll look around. If anyone spots the thread, post it please for all of us.
Your Activity
1. Do you track your savings? Why or why not?
2. What do you include as "savings"?
3. Do you like the ticker tracker in the sig file? If so, is there one design you like the best?

Funny how you used liezlranoy as an example. I was interested in a trade with her so she gave me her trade link. I joined the coupon site, as I wanted to see what her feedback was before I traded, and it doesn't do anything except let you message the other person about a trade. Not worth it for me. I like that I can see feedback on this forum.
- As for tracking savings I don't. I'm thinking I should start because I'm using so many more coupons then I ever did before. As of a month ago I started keeping all my reciepts together. My goal was to see what I spend on groceries in a month and make a budget. So far I haven't gotten arond to it; maybe I don't want to know
LOL
-I think I will only track coupon savings as I consider that 'real' savings. Price matching and sales are smart shopping and that would be pointless for me to track. I would love to put aside the money I save from coupons but for me using coupons has become my way to contribute to household 'income'. We live on my DH's salary so ever penny counts towards things we need.
-I like the ticker but I know I wouldn't update it. One more thing to do
