SDM Mastercard?

For those of you who are talented at racking up lots of Optimum points...do you have a SDM Mastercard? Is it really worth it to get one? I'm thinking about it, but don't really want another credit card (could be dangerous).

Any opinions, suggestions?

i don't have one but you do earn 25 points for each dollar spent. there is an initial 15000 points for signing up.
i do use an aeroplan card at shoppers as i get 1.5 points for each dollar and i like to travel.
it would be a great way to rack up points as long as you pay your balance. a lot of temptation at shoppers lately. i'm exhausted.

Which province are you in because the only rewards program SDM has that ive heard of is shoppers optimum?

the mastercard is available everywhere. you can get an application at shoppers. it's a credit card linked to shoppers. it earns you more points but again it's a credit card and many people don't want to put their purchases on credit because that can be dangerous with our addiction!

I know what a store credit card is and how to get one I don't get how you were earning aeroplan points Unless you mean you just use your aeroplan credit card when you shop there

I interpreted as being her aeroplan credit card as she'd rather get the miles than more optimum points :D

I just got one, but haven't used it yet. I usually use my PC MC as I get the equivalent of 1% back that can be used for grocery purchases and had been wondering the same as you have.

I just did a couple quick calculations.
Highest 'regular' redemption is $170 with 95,000 points it says.
Therefore one point is worth 0.18 cents :D
It looks like with the credit card you get 15 points for every dollar spent (the 25 points they seem to be talking about is 15 points for using the MC and 10 points for using your Shoppers Optimum card)
So for every dollar spent and put on the credit card, with the highest regular redemption that is worth approximately 2.7 cents (or 2.7%) which is higher than using my PC MC to get 1% back for groceries.

I did a few other cases and just have the equivalent to a percentage you get back depending on the redemption. Let me know if it makes any sense, I've been meaning to look at this for awhile :D

38000 for $60 -> 2.4%
50000 for $85 -> 2.6%
95000 for $170 -> 2.7%

You read my mind!!! I had the Shoppers Visa years ago but they changed it....wah .
I was debating getting a mastercard to get points, but was debating between the PC mastercard for groceries or the Shoppers Optimum. Youv'e done my homework for me!!!!

I also have the PC and the Optimum cards. I use my PC everywhere and my Optimum only at Shoppers. If someone better in math than me could show that the Optimum is a better deal I would definitely start using it more often.

That's not how it works. 25 base points, not 20x or 50x the points.

Somehow I don't think this is how it works. You get 50x the 10x for presenting your Optimum card but I don't think they give you 50x for using the Mastercard.

But don't quote me on this as I have never really checked. Has somebody checked this before??? I would really like to know if I am wrong because I would go shop a bit more to get the 50x on CoverGirl. Please let me know!!

I don't understand how this changes it, it is 15 points per dollar spent when you use your MC. I must be missing what you're saying.

Just looked at it and you get 15 points per dollar spent a Shoppers and 5 points per dollar spent everywhere else, so you'd have to take a third of all the percentages earned, which puts it almost always below 1% which is what I get with my PC MC, so to me at least, it looks like it is worth it at Shoppers, but not elsewhere...

I think the key is that Shoppers has BONUS redemption days!!!! + you get 25 points for every dollar when you use it COMBINED with your Optimum card at Shoppers.

Long story short, you can collect points quicker with Shoppers, and they're worth more.
