You get an additional 15 points per dollar you spend at SDM over and above the 10 points per dollar you get as an SO Member. So a total of 25 points per dollar.
Meaning, this weekend I spent 91 dollars on cover girl and @ 10 points per dollar got 50 points per dollar to a total of 41,000 (50K being enough for $100 on the bonus weekends).
If I had had a Shopper's Mastercard and was collecting at 25 points per dollar that would have turned into 1,250 per dollar spent on Covergirl to a total of 113,750. Which is enough to turn around and redeem for $200 on a bonus weekend assuming the multiple applies to the whole amount (which I was under the impression it does).

10 points per dollar x 91$ = 910 points not 41,000 points.
However there was a 50x points event on cover girl giving you the extra points.
HOWEVER if you used the mastercard, you would simply only be getting an extra 1365 points NOT the extra 72750 points you think you would get.
The 15 points per dollar only applies to base amount. unless things have changedLast edited by bryceton; Mon, Apr 11th, 2011 at 04:01 PM.

I don't think you get 50X for the mastercard. I think you would have gotten 41,000 points from the CG promo plus another 1365 from the mastercard ($91 x 15pts/$) for a grand total of 42365 points.
Anyone know if this is correct?

i'm in the same boat...one of the SDM cashier i chit chat with last week told me that IHO it'S worth it...if you manage not to pay interest on your card...meaning pay your entire bill every month....you can put all your purchases on your card....even furniture....so i'm still thinking

sometimes great canadian rebates dot com will do cash back when you apply for a SDM Mastercard through them. That is what I did when I got mine. So I got $60 from Great Canadian Rebates when I was approved and 22,000 bonus points from SDM when I made my first purchase

If you already have a mastercard you can call the company and ask them if they offer the SDM mastercard...that's what I did with my sony master card and I had it switched. The bonus was that i still qualified for the 15k bonus for my first purchase!!

I have one & I have the PC one too. I buy all my stamps & lottery at SDM with my MC so it is worth to me, but I only use it at SDM. You can always tell how many promos they run in a month by the amount of my statement

I am a big fan of the VISA Infinite Aeroplan card - I used 300,000 points to book 4 economy class tickets from Toronto, Australia, Hawaii and back for next Christmas. I get 1 point/mile per dollar spent and I also get 50% more points when I make grocery, gas or drug store purchases. I checked the value of the flights on expedia and they are worth over $15k. I figure I get 1500 points extra every month and have been doing this for 3.5 years so that 300,000 really cost me 247,500. So $15K/247,500 = 6%.
But that was to use my points during prime time. And booking these flights was a huge task to work thru the aeroplan system.
I put everything on this VISA card and pay the bill in full every month (what else are lines of credit for??)
Several years ago I had 500,000 points and cashed them in for about $4200 worth of FutureShop gift cards (for gifts) - less than 1% return. I have learned a good lesson.

kidsteph, i actually have the infinite adventura card and a plain aeroplan card. you can transfer between the two accounts. adventura allows you to book the trip from anywhere and use your points. ie expedia itravel etc. i use it at shoppers/gas/groceries to get the 1.5 points. i also use a petro canada points card at petro with my visa and then transfer my petro points to my aeroplan and then to adventura. i use points.com for this. i could actually transfer my shoppers points to aeroplan and then adventura but haven't yet. i like to redeem for goods at shoppers and while i haven't done the math the redemption at shoppers is probably worth more a point then at aeroplan dollar wise.
