He's appealing apparently. And there is a good chance he will get this overturned.

You are so right.
I do not like some of his poliices and strategies, but just about 50 per cent of the city voted for him - highest turn out.
The left on council were out to get him - any way possible. And the Toronto Star guy at his house. Peering over his backyard. And CBC "warrior lady" going after him first thing in the morning.
If they didn't succeed yesterday, they were going to make the remaining two years hell for him, until they succeeded.
I wish the best for Toronto.

And David Miller and his back room deals.
And Kyle Ray and his lavish birthday party costing way, way more that 3200.
Hrrmph. Don't get me started on the rest of them and their spending and their cheating.

Sadly, in politics you get in more trouble for calling someone a liar than you do for the actual misuse of $$ or something and not declaring a conflict of interest is one of the biggest no-no's in the book
In the Ontario legislature, a couple of politicians were removed for the remainder of a session by the Speaker with no court hearings or anything when they refused to take back comments they made and disrupted debate. The speaker is just another politician they choose to be speaker, IMO a judge is a better person than the opposite political party for making decisions like that. These two refused to leave and slept in the legislature and bc they were not allowed there, the legislature could not function with them there so they didnt sit for several days. Once they were removed, they had to wait until the Legislature came back with a new session and their constituents had no voice in the legislature until McGuinty called a new session a few months later

Ford was never the polished politician, the smooth talker...that was actually what common folk liked about him, he never minced words. Sadly this and many other attacks were orchestrated, he fell right into a trap. I am sad that he has been made to feel humiliated on so many occasions over of all things his weight and general appearance...( not a flashy dresser )
Honest to a fault, dedicated to the people of Toronto. Love him ( I do ), hate him....this does not change the man and the good he did and will continue to try and do.
Put Doug Halliday in there until Rob can win his Mayor's seat back I say!!

They do actually declare an interest when voting a raise
its all in the little things, but Ford has been a politician long enough to know voting on something like that would land him in hot water, he handed them it on a platter

Exactly. If people wanted an excuse to get him out well he provided it. At any point he could have just paid the $3000 and moved on but his stubborness did him in. He felt he was right, he felt he was entitled and it's landed him in trouble.
He did this to himself by thinking he was above any rules and now he must deal with the consequences.Last edited by SarahS83; Tue, Nov 27th, 2012 at 05:44 PM.

what trap???
1)When he was elected to the council, he was given a manual explaining proceedures INCLUDING identifying conflict of intereasts.
2) he wrote for donations to HIS PRIVATE charity using council headed note-paper...illegal...pprobabley not, immoral..possibly but definately tacky and a waste of taxpayers money.
3) when it came to light there was a council vote in which Ford voted without declaring a conflict of intereasts and in which his vote was un-necessary.
4) the trial was over the non disclosure of a conflict of iintereasts as detailed in the manual which Mr Ford claiims he never read so he was innocent...and the big meanies never told him differntly...
Ignorance of the law be it federal, provincal or a local bye-law is never and has never been a defence. Some-one who wants to be a position of power and influence should be doubly sure that they are totally scruplious with regards to the little things like the law.
BTW...did Mr Ford ever re-pay the money he was asked to??
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!
