How long does cat food last, both wet and dry?
i'm just talking about regular grocery store brands, not pet store or organic type or whatever type brands.

    any info would be appreciated!

Just check your bags and tins as they do have expiry dates on them.

Once you open a bag of dry food I recommend storing it in the freezer as it helps keep it fresher ... then again not sure if many of us have room to even do that!

Storing cat food for longer terms can be done in the freezer. Cat food contains fat. All cats require 5.5 grams of fat per day.... so research says any ways. Fat just like our vegetable oils and shortenings all have a shelf life before they go rancid. Just like storing butter in the freezer stops the aging process of fats... of course freezer burn can be a problem. If you were to get within a month of the expirey date and had 3 or 4 or 6 months of food left I would just store it in the freezer.

there must be a 'best before' on the can , box or bag....?

my experience with small treats for dogs......i bring some in my coat pocket when i go for a walk ....just in case i meet a not so friendly dog alone .....after few months, i found there was tiny worms in the box ....it went in the garbage right away, i wouldn't make someone's dog sick just by trying to make friend with the neigborhood dogs.....i must say, the dog food was in my pantry

i know i was a little off topic....but me thinking ....is it their food that makes dogs having worms ?....people must be aware of it...IMHO....
