Walmart would not price match my FreshCo flyer. FreshCo has chickens for 5.97. Min 1.4kg. I picked up the same product which was 1.7kg and they refused. Manager had already put his foot down with other customers who also thought it was a reasonable comparison.

Did any other smart canucks try this match?

I am not a seasoned PMer, but when I do I always make sure that if I can't find the exact same product, the product is less. I have never had a problem. I am not able to tell you if your PM refusal was unfair.

I very rarely try to price match meats as I have heard so many people say they have been turned down. I have heard Wal-Mart is one of the hardest places to price match meats because they sell most of them by the pack not by the kg or lb. I think it all depends I tried to buy a whole Prime Chicken once and I got the opposite issue, I was trying to price match it by the kg and they sold them by the pack so they refused my price match.

very similar experience except with ground beef by the lb... i thought they could just weigh the pack...

Sorry to hear about this issue.
It really depends on the location- I've had luck PM'ing meat at Walmart.

Perhaps try buying their house brand instead of a brand name?

I've purchased pork ribs before where Walmart was selling for $10/pack.
The ribs were on sale elsewhere for $2/lb = $4.40/kg
What the cashier did was take the weight of the ribs, which was 1.7kg (for example)
and did some simple math. $4.40 x 1.7 = $7.48 <- which he then entered as a price override.

I think it's harder for them to PM am item sold by pack when their item is sold by weight. :T

Same at mine, it is on sale by the pack they need to be selling it by the pack. If it is on sale by the lb they need to be selling it by the lb. I have found this seems their reason to not price match meats.

my friend is the manager of the meat dept here in Hamilton and she said this is how they have to price match at Walmart. LB for LB and package for package. that is why its hard to price match there because they get all there meat pre packaged and then delivered to them.

i know this is an old thread, but I was able to pm Price chopper for Maple Prime whole chicken for $2/lb. Reg. $13, I got it for $7! They has a label by the corner of the bag with the price by the lbs, so I had no problem pming. as long as the the package does not have a firm weight eg. like their ground meat is always 500g per pack or a firm price eg. $5 sticker package. I think we can pm.
