and what do you do if after over six months of no longer being with Bell.. they call you 5-10x a day.. i've googled the # its Bell.. is it called harassment and what can we do about it.. were happy with our provider, however we'd be happier if Bell left us alone. they call day and night. nearly every time the phone rings its them. as i said this has been going on for over 6 MONTHS.

Since you have the agent's name (Kam), I'm guessing you know the date, and probably around the time you called.

Like others have said, keep calling back.

When I switched my service from Rogers to Teksavvy, I called Rogers and was assured that when Teksavvy changed my number to their service I'd no longer have to deal with Rogers and did not have to call and cancel myself (I was on a month to month, so no cancellation fees).

The next month I got a bill from Rogers for service, even though my number had been changed over a month ago. When I contacted their CSR, she told me that I must have just changed my number and I still had to pay for the service. Nope. Took almost 30 minutes, but it finally got through to her that I had my number changed over a month ago, and they credited my account the final payment.
Of course, they also charged me for the long distance call their technician made to their offices to make sure my line was hooked up....but I was just happy to pay and be done with them.

After reading more here, I'm even more convinced Bell is a creepy company. I understand some large companies are going to have stupid policies, but Bell is just plain creepy. Creepy creepy!

If you port your number to a competitor you do not have to give that new company ANY notice!!! What happens is when your new provider takes the number from Bell it AUTOMATICALLY tells Bell you are cancelling your service! and Bell will then send you your final bill.

You pay for any charges up until the point of when you transferred your number.

If your contract was not up until Feb 5th then Bell has EVERY right to charge you a cancellation fee for breach of contract even with the NEW law in place.

What you should have done is on Feb 5th gone to Virgin and ported your number out from Bell Mobility - it takes a matter of minutes for this process and you wouldn't have gotten any cancellation fees

We do not speak to ANY person from a competitor about porting your number, it is all done over the internet threw filling out forms. It is a computer that responds to the new service provider if it is ok to port a number NOT a person

The ONLY time you are required to give 30 days notice is for TV or Internet

The problem lies in that a Bell representative did not clearly tell you if you ported your number out before your contract date was over than you would be charged

Phone into Bell customer service and inquire about it - every single call that is made into customer service is recorded - and to be honest Virgin Mobile is a smaller company of BELL if you didn't know

Here we go.. another "I work for company xxx so I know everything..." Bell actually owns Virgin Mobile. And they do permit 'courtesy' cancellations when you move from one of their divisions to another. The OP is still with a 'Bell' company. Fido does the same allowing people to move to Rogers while still under contract, etc.

That is rather rude. I appreciated her insight and knowledge. There was nothing wrong at all with what she generously shared here.

I am a little late but I'll add my current experience with Bell. I just switched from Bell to Telus. Bills with Bell were getting outrageous and Telus offered better plans. In order to keep my number, I was told not to cancel my account with Bell. So I go to Telus, everything is done by them, although the porting over(or whatever its called) took about 1 1/2 hours to complete. So during that time I could make calls on my new Telus phone but could only receive calls on my Bell phone. It was amusing lol.
So low and behold 2 days later I get this email from Bell
This email is to confirm that we have recently received your request to cancel your wireless number 905-XXX-XXXX. We require 30 days notice to complete this request as outlined in the terms of your service agreement. Your account will be cancelled on 02/27/2013.

Over the next 30 days, your account and mobile phone will remain active (unless otherwise notified) and you will be billed accordingly.

Your monthly rate plans and features are regularly billed one month in advance. As a result, you may receive one additional invoice prior to receiving your final invoice while our system prepares to cancel your account. The final bill will be prorated according to the cancellation date.

Please note, any roaming type charges may take up to 90 days to be processed and billed to your account.

For more information on final bills, please go to
    bell.ca/finalbill

It's not too late to come back. To find out more about what we can do for you, please call us at 1 800 667 0123.

    Sincerely

    Bell Mobility

So I decide there is no point in paying $8 a month for call display and $15 a month for texting when I won't be using them. So I call Bell and thats when the crap hits the fan. My "active" account is suspended so I cannot make any changes to it. I got well pretty pissed off so I called back and got some other moron who tells me essentially the same thing. I ask to speak to a supervisor but they don't start work until 10am. Um your website says 8am but supervisors don't start until 10am. Fine, I sent an email thru their website and got some other stupid replay that says I need to speak to a supervisor. My problem? I start work at 6:30am, if I'm lucky I'm home for brekkie and then don't finish until 8 or 9pm. So I make the calls during my brekkie but the supervisors don't start yet. For the minimum $83ish its going to cost me for my remaining month to get the hell away from this company, I'm just paying it.
Sorry to hijack your thread, but I think the more people know about companies like Bell and changing phone companies while trying to keeping your number, the less of us will get screwed by it!!
