Because since they were bought out by an American, Tim Hortons has BECOME American. It's no longer any part Canadian... Except for the pictures of Sid Crosby on the walls! Everyone watch out!!The Americans ARE, in fact, invading..

Here is my explanation for the reason (no evidence). Whenever someone wins a free coffee, it would be logical that they would redeem it for an XL cup since it's free so taking this into consideration, there probably fewer prizes in XL cups but a still yield a greater chance of hitting a super prize.

According to this article, Timmies dished out so many prizes this year, it actually affected profits.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...rticle2019372/

"Tim Hortons blames Roll up the Rim

That free coffee or muffin you won at Tim Hortons isn’t going down well with the company’s shareholders...

But all those freebies finally caught up with the company in the first quarter, causing results to miss expectations and sending the stock to its biggest loss in more than two years...

On the first-quarter conference call, chief executive officer Don Schroeder said the odds of winning a prize were one in six this year, up from one in nine last year. The increase mainly comprised food and beverage items, of which 47 million were available, meaning more people were redeeming winning cups instead of shelling out cash for coffee and food...."

So I guess next year, there will be fewer prizes.

So should they just absorb every cost increase that comes along. Raw coffee bean costs are probably up to them, gas is up, etc. Sorry to say but in the end it does mean an increase in the price.
