I know the more traffic and users the forum gets, the more lucrative it is for the owner. Personally, I think it is equally important to try to retain the legit/regular users who have proven themselves beneficial to the community. I don't know about other people, but I would be on here a lot more if it weren't for the spam. I belong to other forums where you are moderated for the first few posts - there is almost no spam on it. I don't think it's fair for the mods to have to delete posts that shouldn't have been allowed in the first place.

as a mod/admin on other boards in the past, it's very difficult to decide how many posts are needed before letting people be un-moderated..

is 5/10/20/100 too many or too few??

Serious spammers will just bombard the site with cr@p posts until they break the limit. Spam-bots will just flood the systems too.

Many people are likely to be put off posting here if they have to wait for a moderated post to be allowed. it's a very difficult
balance to allow real posters to participate in thier early stages while keeping out the spammers and crud like that.

GoJays, the report limit is set at 10 seconds, the problem is that the server doesn't seem to see the same time as the site, they are looking at it again

As Darth mentioned, we have many who do post 5-10 normal posts (often thanks for posting, but regular users post that too) before spamming

Forum Expert is putting some new spam guards in place, but we will not moderate all new users to that extent. We get sometimes 100 new users in a day, even at 5 posts that is 500 posts that mods would have to look through and decide but the person who asks a question about a deal would go elsewhere and ask it while they wait for one of us to get to their moderated report.

Seems like you're on Android and I'm on iOS. Bummer as the app is working flawless for me. Before the two upgrades I did, I had a few issues that cropped up but pretty much all are gone now. I've had a browse of a bunch of random threads in random directories and all of them render correctly, even if they have attachments/images. With no Android device, I can't debug so I'll need to explore alternative options to figure out the problem as money's tight nowadays. Will work with you on that one though. If you could give me the link to that thread and any others, I'll have a look and check the DB too.

The spam prevention techniques are on the registration form. I will continue to work on other solutions that will deter spam for the benefit of this community. Please understand that I must think out the solutions and how they will affect the community on a wider basis. As FP has said, 100 new members a day multiplied by 5 moderated posts equals 500, give or take a few too. This puts a massive strain on the moderation team who are already doing the best they can and they're real people too. I'm exploring new solutions on how to tackle this problem effectively as every site is different and solutions must be custom tailored to be effective. Bare with me .

On tapatalk some posts are not showing up for me. IE. Coyote's Price Is Right train - the first post just has a pic when on my iPod. If I log on with the PC, I see text also.

Any idea why that is?

Also, if a post is long and I hit the "more" link, I get booted right off tapatalk. Is this a tapatalk issue or SC?
