Thread: Ask me anything about Rogers

If your account is relatively new and you don't have a lot of income accrewed then yes you often can get a better deal though customer relations. Rogers will pretty much only make a retention offer if you are cancelling your account & going to another provider.
As for your friend, I would advise that he/she calls in the complaint rather than writting a letter as this is more likely to ensure an adequate (and faster) response to the problem.

Hi Prue,
I have been a $10 pay as you go user for about 8 years, I still have one phone for my kids on at $10 and I have recently upgraded ( a long a painful story) to the V360 and upped mine to the $20 a month which gives me the 1c a minute eves & weekends.
It took Rogers nearly 8 weeks to finally ship me a phone, they kept billing my cc and then refunding it and then finally billed it and I had a dispute running as I did not recieve any phone from them and then boom one day a phone turns up. Happy to finally get the phone but the whole process was horrific and stressful. Rogers is a communications company, why do they not contact you if there is some problem rather than cancel everything. First off they told me 4 weeks after I ordered the phone that they could not ship to a PO box # so I gave them my work address ( a building that has stood for about 100 years) Rogers said that Canada post does not recognise it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Very frustrating.
I am however very happy with my new phone!!
My daughters phone is a paygo too, when I was having issues with ordering mine the lady I spoke to said I should have been eligiable for a FREE upgrade?? Would this apply to my daughters phone (which is a siemens crappy one) so that I could update her??
Thanks for your help!!

Hello Samantha
Sorry your upgrade was so frustrating but glad to hear that you got it all worked out and are happy with the new phone. The shipping issues are likely why your card kept getting billed & refunded (too long a process to explain here!), but I agree you should have received at least a courtesy call to keep you aprised of what was going on.
Rogers is currently in the process of shutting down our Analogue/TDMA network, and so anyone using a non-GSM phone is being offered a free upgrade. If your daughters phone is analogue or TDMA you should soon receive a letter from Rogers instructing you on how to upgrade it. If it is a GSM model already, she will not receive this offer for a free upgrade.

Sorry Prue7979, here's another question.
Say I'm having a 3 year contract from Feb 2005, due to complete in 2008 and I ask for a hardware upgrade.
If I'm eligible, does it mean I should add 2 or 3 years extension to 2008?

Nope, a hardware upgrade extension is from the date of the upgrade. So if you went in today and did a 3 year upgrade, your contract would be for 3 years from today.

Hi There,
I'm currently a Telus customer, looking to switch over to Rogers wireless. I went to my local Rogers Plus store and inquired about incentives for new customers porting numbers in from other providers. I was VERY surprised to hear that nothing was being offered, not even free activation (I was told there was a $35 activation fee).
I was offered (at least what I think) is a great retention package from Telus, but I want to switch to Rogers for the GSM network - but with the rates what they are it just may not make sense.
Do you have any tips for getting a better deal? I'm not necessarily looking for a handset deal, but free activation and free call waiting/voicemail would be ideal. Am I dreaming?

Hello blahzay
The best advice I can give you on getting the activation fee waived is to call customer service. Be sure to tell them you are interested in coming to Rogers now that you can port your number, but Telus offered you an amazing retention plan. If you ask them too, they may agree to credit you the $35.00 activation fee provided you sign up for a 3 year service plan.
As for call waiting it is included on all of our monthy plans, so that's free.

Thanks very much for the advice...I will give that a shot.
Sorry...my mistake. I meant call display or voicemail...are either of those things typicially given away?

Not normally but it never hurts to ask while you have them on the phone! Good luck, and let me know how you make out

I am a current Rogers digital subsciber and thinking of buying an HDTV. Does rogers offer any deals for HDPVR when a digital customer buys an HDTV? I have heard of 10 months for free and also 2 years for free? Any info?
Thanks
Barkev

Hi barkev
Yes that offer usually availiable - I did it myself with my last tv. When you buy an HDTV from participating retailers, they will give you a rental kit. You call the number on the kit and Rogers will give you 10 months of an HDPVR rental for free along with the HD channels! I am not familiar with any offers for 2 years free, but it is always possible that the retailer could be subsidizing the difference (though does not seem likely).

I've been thinking of getting a cellphone and going prepaid with it. I was looking online and there are monthly text messaging plans. I'm wondering if I can subscribe to the text messaging plan while going prepaid? Thanks for your help.
