Nunavut can you use coupons?

Hi All,

Silly question does anyone know if you can use coupons in Nunavut? I am thinking of taking a job there and I am so concerned about the costs of living and food. I am wondering if anyone knows of anyone or can help me thank you in advance for your help.

We went grocery shopping again tonight at the Tru-Value (yes, normally that is a hardware store) and since all the 'southerners' who read our blog were so fascinated by our last food price post, here's more from the past week:

2 Cans of Dr. Pepper $1.87 each
1 Loaf of Wonder Bread $3.49
1 box of six Fish Sticks $9.99
1 package of 12 hot dog buns: $4.99
24 slices of American cheese: $7.69
1 Hostess cookie: $2.19
2 cans of tuna: $3.79
12 cans of Pepsi: $18.79

...and finally, 1L container of apple juice, $5.89

Wha????? holy smokers!!! Does that say $29. something for a large cheeze whiz or do I need glasses? Those prices are insane to say the least, I feel sooo bad for those ppl who have to pay that much just to eat

I am still in sticker shock.. I now want to know what the cost of clothes will be.. holy COW!!!! I wondered why they pay so much and pay for housing and meals at a restaurant. They extra pay goes to basic costs... .

They get food barges. You order a year's worth of staples and when the weather is good, it comes on barges. Also, hunting is very important.

I didn't live in Nunavut (although I knew a few people who have) but I lived in a remote northern community in BC for 3 years. Our local prices weren't as bad as in the arctic but they were pretty harsh. We would take a weekend trip to go grocery shopping 7 hours away, about once a month.

Thanks for the info.. to leave the town where I am going to be you have to fly out.. the cheapest 1 way ticket I have found so far is 2300.00 taxes in... so I have a feeling I will be relying on family to send care packages and on my once a year 3 week vacations I will be stocking up.

Personal care items are super expensive there too everything gets more expensive the farther you get from transportation routes and city centers. Especially in remote areas where they have to fly everything in because your paying for the product + transportation by airplane into the area where the products are headed + store markups to make profits on the items.

Personally I would pack a suitcase full of essential items that your job wont be paying for so you aren't soaked with these crazy prices.

I'd have to be paid like 1 million a year to move there. I like my fresh produce, spur of the moment grocery store trip etc.

i guess the prices are real good incentive to sit at home and invent ways to make your own diapers and cheez whiz. holy moly!
