I really want to start using Checkout 51, and it seems that getting an ipod touch might be my cheapest option...

Any idea where the best place to get one is? Online? In-store?

I am not tech-savvy at all...

    Any help is appreciated.

Unless you are looking for a used one it is my experience there is not much different in price. I got mine for Christmas but went with the person to buy it and I got mine for either $10 or $20 cheaper than what most other places were advertising. I do not think that Apple really gives them much room to fluctuate on pricing.

You need to make sure to get 4th or 5th generation with a camera. I went with 5th but know soon there will probably be a 6th generation.

If you don't mind buying used, you should check out Kijiji. I always see iPod's for sale on there for pretty good prices, usually with accessories included.

I have the 4G and its great for what I need. Tapatalk is pretty much my best friend. lol

One of the differences is that Apple changed the size of the plug and connector; it's smaller on the iPod Touch 5 and manufacturers haven't caught up yet, so you need to buy, from Apple, an adapter if you want to use existing equipment you already have.

The other thing about buying older generations is that Apple eventually stops supporting them and doesn't upgrade the software. I just inherited a 3rd generation and already upgrades for apps aren't going through or I can't stream videos because my iPod doesn't have the 6.1 IOS software. It's only a matter of time until it happens to the 4th generation.

For the checkout 51 app you need to have a minimum of ios 5 which the gen 3 won't run so you need a Gen 4 or better for both freshpoints and checkout 51. Many of the ipods on kijiji I have seen are the gen3 or they want almost as much as getting one that is new with warranty.

Or even better, if you have airmile. log in to your airmile account, shop from there, same thing, you also get airmiles from buying apple.

Hope you dont mind that i give you another suggestion. Buy a brandnew iphone 4 look to koodo from bestbuy
    Here is the plan
go to bestbuy to activate Koodo iphone 4
    you pay at the store is 100 + 13% tax = 113
Bestbuy give you 100 BB gift card for activate. Check with the staff to make sure you get 100 GC
    Pick a supertab $150. and $ 20 plan.
Go home wait for 2 hours then call them to cancel, give them any reason ex like you buy for your sister and does not want them to pay anything after that.
Since you cancel the service, you pay 150 tab. + 1 - 5 days of koodo service, The bill should be around 175 after tax
On top of that. if you bring a referal to bestbuy to activate, you will get another $25 BB gift card in 36 days later. Click Here for my referal As total,
    113 at bestbuy
    -100 bestbuy gift card
    175 from Koodo
    - 25 from bestbuy 36 days later
Total is 163 aftertax. You will get a brandnew iphone 4. 8Gb
You can do factory unlock for easy. Some Koodo CS may offer you factory unlock which you will pay 50 + tax but you can find outside at lower price.

I just bought the refurbished ipod 8gig from the apple store. I asked about it and was assured that the refurbs are just like the new ones in the store except they had been opened before by someone else. ie no scratches and abuse. The only thing is that they can't be engraved like a new one.

I went through for 1.5% back. If someone wants a referral please ask.

There really isn't a huge difference in prices around for Apple products. If you're okay with used, try Kijiji. My hubby got one on there not long ago for like $60.

Sorry to tell you that Apple Refurbished products are not new ones - My store is a Apple Authorized Dealer and refurbished ANYTHING are devices that physically had a problem or defect with it and has been returned under warranty and Apple fixes them and resells them

YUP you are correct Apple very much regulates ALL PRICES to be the same no matter where you go - the only time you will see a brand new product at a different price is because they have a specific deal with Apple to sell xx amount at a lower rate
