Anyone use facebook? Your community might have a 'Freecycle' or 'Garage Sale' group?
Well I don't use facebook, but I used a friends account and posted a wanted ad for the following:
Cat Taxi - Got one given to me and bought another for $10
WIndows 7 Laptop... don't care how bad it is.... sold one to me for $50
^^^^ within an hour!
So I asked for anyone who might any extra firewood..... got some free if I picked up
Anyone have a bunch of VHS movies they don't want?... got a box of about 30 (some look like skin flicks... funny titles written on white labels) for $5
then I posted I have 2 tires to give away..... GONE!
2 pairs of gum boots $5 each pair, never used..... gone!
If your community has one of these groups, it might be a great way to save a ton of money, and earn a little cash cleaning out your junk!
I think I might join facebook just to post in there!

That's a great ideal I usually use kijji to sell stuff and have been pretty lucky with it but I will have to have a look and see if there are any of these groups on fb for Toronto. Thanks for posting and enjoy all your goodies..
Come trade with me I have a lot to trade

I love Freecycle!
A couple years ago a lady was giving away some of her raspberry plants (runners) as they were taking over her yard.
I picked up a few plants and transplanted them. Now that little corner I dedicated to those three little twigs have become a full blown raspberry forest!
Looks like I'll have to thin mine out soon, as they are popping up everywhere and I'll "pay it forward" to someone else on Freecycle

That's for the thread vesper. I've heard of freecycle but never checked into it. Gives me something to do while I sit here recuperating.
We all need a little sunshine every now and then

I have been a Freecycle member for years! It helped us when we were new to this country and now it helps me pay back! There are very good people and very annoying ones too! So be very careful ... you will slowly learn anyways. But if anyone wants to start, go to yahoogroups and look for FS group in your city. Once you join, the mods will approve you and send you bunch of rules. The first post *should* be an OFFER and then you want list your WANTS. I would not join the Toronto grp as the mods seem to be very busy so I am good with the suburb grps. Well managed by the moderators and I pretty much know who is on my blacklist and who is a genuine person in need!

I tried joining a couple months ago bc I have a couple things to give away but I never got approved lol. I am in Toronto so maybe pp is right about the mods being busy. Or maybe they just don't want my stuff :-S I'd rather give it on freecycle bc I always feel like if I give things away on kijiji it will end up on sale the next week for someone to make a profit on :-S I know there are good people on kijiji who truly need the items but I wouldn't doubt that lots of people scoop up free items and sell them.

Freecycle is awesome! My mom and i have been signed up with it since 2003! Great way to get rid of those things you feel too guilty to throw away. And there are often people giving away coupons and inserts as well

I love freecycle!!! There are two in my community...one on facebook and then the "regular one" via the Freecycle.org site. I've been a memeber for years and have given and received so much from it. I even use it to give away extra stockpile items I don't need! Its amazing how many people wanted/use zantac!! lol. I posted (last year) that I had a bunch and my email box was flooded with requests. So even small items you may think no one would want, can really help someone out
Also there was also a time I really needed a vacuum...I posted that I was looking for one...and had someone drop of a practically new, super high quality vacuum (the nextday!) - that I still use today!

That's something I hadn't thought of checking for, thanks vesper. We do give and get on Kijiji.
We used to be members of freecycle, but there were problems with that group in our city, so we are now with Full Circles - similar group, all you have to do is check if there is one in your area.

Awesome brag !! I love recycle brags........no point in manufacturing new things when we can pass things back and forth for nothing (or next to nothing) !!
I dislike FB and only joined as I learned from SC how many freebies I was missing out on ! And it's the only purpose I use it for still.
ps.........Frankie MacDonald could probably have used your gumbootsLast edited by redhdlois; Tue, Jun 18th, 2013 at 08:30 PM.
