Does anyone know the specific airlines that allows small pets to be on the plane, and not in cargo? There may be a vacation at the end of the year, and Sparky would have to follow because of his health issues, and I have no one who could take care of him who knows all of it. Me going totally depends on if he can be in a carrier on my lap, because I will not put him in cargo. If he can't see me, and he's nervous, that'll be the quickest way for him to go into cardiac arrest. Again.

So, what i'm asking is ; the specific airlines, and if anyone did fly with a small animal like this - how was it?

The flight would be about 4 hours. Also - they follow you though security, i'd imagine. Would he need to come out of the carrier for the security staff to see? Because, if he's scared, that may not be pretty. And, during the time you check in, wait for the flight, any delays, are on the flight - what if they need to use the washroom? Granted, on the flight I know there's nothing we could do, but before during the wait time..?

Did you ever find out? I think most airlines allows pets in the cabin... My dogs are too big to fly in cabin so I don't have experience with that particularly, but I fly them down below and I've always been happy with Westjet.

I am pretty sure that once you are through security there aren't anymore chances to potty your dog. But it's the same when my dogs fly underneath, I potty them for the last time at the airport before they go into their kennels. I always ask how long I can keep them and only give them up at the latest time I am allowed (the smaller the airport, the longer I can keep them). That's what I would do too if I was taking my dogs in cabin - I would ask what the latest time is that I should go through security and just stay outside with my dog until then.

    Hope that helps a bit

Check with your vet..they might know which ones will allow anomals in the cabin area..though if your dog has health problems the airline may refuse to sell you a ticket for him. Alternately talk to vets in the immediate area of the airport you are using, they may be better placed to have that info.

When we brought our cats to Canada, they had to be checked by a specialised vet before being given permission to fly ( in cargo). I also had to sign a waiver on the chances of them dying in flight since they were considered to be senior cats, ie over 8 yrs old IIRC, even though they were in good health.

I think everyone has to sign a waiver when flying with their pets whether in cabin or underneath, regardless of the pet's age... We always have had to anyway

No vet checks needed to fly dogs WITHIN Canada. Of course to the USA and overseas is a different story - you will need a health certificate then... But all of that info on exactly what you need is always on each of the airline's websites and can easily be found Each airline has their pet flying policy clearly written and it tells you what you need to fly your pet

I flew on Westjet from Vancouver to Calgary (and then on to Halifax for me) next to a woman who had a small dog similar in size to Sparky. He wouldn't be allowed out of his carrier, and would have to be under the seat, but he would at least be in the cabin, close to you and your smell for comfort.
