My sister worked at RBC head office in Toronto for a lot of years, she was a manager of some sort. Then one day they came to her and said, we're eliminating your job. She questioned them as to how they could possibly run the department without someone doing her job, and they told her SHE had to advise her 9 employees that they to were getting the pink slip!!! She lives in St Catherine's, so she was fortunate to get a job about 5 months later doing the same thing at Manulife, but she found out about 2 years after she left RBC, that some brain surgeon figured out it wouldn't work and about 9 months later they had to reopen her department, they called her and offered her more money to come back.....
She said "Screw you"
Gosh, I luv my sister!
We all need a little sunshine every now and then

This isn't outsourcing, this is illegal, and if not it should be. RBC is bringing temporary foreign workers in to replace Canadian workers in already filled positions to pay them a wage of 15% less. This is DISGUSTING. And if I had a Royal Bank account (which I don't) I'd be closing it very quickly. No way am I giving business to a company who will displace Canadian workers so they can bring in TFW to pay a wage of 15% lower.

it's a rather lengthy article but interesting:
http://www.ctvnews.ca/business/ottaw...lash-1.1228703
one thing it says:
"In order to obtain permits for temporary foreign workers, companies must show that a qualified Canadian cannot be found to perform the work."
and:
"Immigration lawyer Chantal Desloges told CTV News Channel that as the investigation into iGate moves forward, it will be “interesting to know whether Service Canada dropped the ball on this one by giving iGate the approval.”
what?!!!! Service Canada approved this?!!!!
it just gets sicker and sicker

I love how RBC is trying to get out of this one by saying they hired iGate and asked them to ensure they you all legal practices. RBC just had NO idea! Yeah right lol

wow!
On Monday, the federal government confirmed iGate, based in Fremont, Calif., was granted a positive labour market opinion (LMO), which is supposed to be issued only when an assessment determines the hiring will not take jobs away from available and qualified Canadians.
While it is not clear if the temporary foreign workers from India have been working and reporting directly to RBC or iGate, the affected bank employees said they have been asked to train their replacements.
....
RBC did not respond to an interview request Monday, but CEO Gord Nixon assured in an internal memo late Sunday the bank has not hired temporary foreign workers to take over jobs done by of its own employees.
seriously
if you're training your replacement... your replacement is going to do your job. seems pretty straightforward to me. was the ceo not aware that his current employees were training their replacements.
seriously
how stupid does he think everyone else is

I know many people may think I'm a Harper Hater (closeted of course lol) but here's the thing: While people should absolutely be upset with RBC they should be more upset with the Federal Government that APPROVED this rather than a company that took advantage of a situation the Government allowed.

It honestly doesn't matter who's running the show, Harper or someone else, they're all the same devil as much as we'd like to believe that they aren't.

I agree with you, but in this instance Harper is current PM and he also has been the one toying with immigration laws and rules for FTW and look where it's getting Canadians? People are being brought in to be paid a less wage to not just take jobs "Canadians won't do" but to take the jobs away from Canadians who are already doing them.

In the mortage industry you hear a lot of things. I had a debt counselor tell me today that next to citifinancial, RBC scared him the most with rule bending and non-disclosure
