Went to sobeys and price chopper today to buy Ocean Spray juice 2/$5 I had 2 $1 coupon that I printed off this site. They would not allow these coupons because on the coupon it did not say internet coupon. Is this new? They had 3 people come over to dispute it with me. I walked out with no juice. Apparently someone is making fake coupons and the stores are loosing too much money and they are firming up their policies.

Here in Saint John NB there are some internet coupons Sobeys will take, but their pretty strict on how the wording has to be. It has to say manufacturer coupon, have an expiry date and all that jazz.
Apparently one of th cashiers told me that they have to sign a peice of paper saying that they as the cashier are responsible for paying the price of the coupon if it turns out to be no good, which is why a lot of cashiers refuse them while some will accept them.

Fresh Co (at least the one near me) won't take any printable coupon no matter what it says. I just PM it somewhere else.

Here the Sobey's policy is they don't take internet coupons for free products but they will take them for $ off. Seems fair, at one point it was no internet coupons, period.

Too bad! I used them no problem at shoppers ....I don't know how you can fake a coupon -- if it scans, doesn't that mean its good??

Sadly the only coupon scanning technology used in Canada right now, are the in store coupons, like Loblaws "coupon zone" coupons, or coupons stores put in their flyers for whatever promo they may have.
I sincerely hope our coupon evolution here in Canada takes us there soon!

This is an email got back from Sobeys when I asked about there coupon policy:
Hi Sarah
Thank you for inquiring about our coupon policy.
We accept original coupons for products we sell, providing the coupon is intact and legible, proper size of item is purchased, coupon has not expired, has a coupon offer code or UPC, and it contains a Canadian redemption address. We accept one coupon per item.
Internet coupons may be accepted if they meet the above and the following criteria:
• There must be a picture of the product on the coupon.
• The printed coupon must not be blurry.
• The face value of the coupon cannot exceed $5.00 off.
• We do not accept free product internet coupons.
• The expiry date should not exceed 6 weeks from the day it was printed. All internet coupons will have an expiry date visible.
• The coupon must have a Canadian redemption address.
• The coupon must have only one UPC (i.e. bar code).
• The coupon must say "INTERNET COUPON" to be legitimate.
Coupon acceptance is at the discretion of store management. Please do not hesitate to contact us again should you have any other concerns or questions.
Sincerely
Ann

Here is what Sobeys emailed me on Monday:
Thank you for inquiring about our coupon policy.
We accept original coupons for products we sell, providing the coupon is intact and legible, proper size of item is purchased, coupon has not expired, has a coupon offer code or UPC, and it contains a Canadian redemption address. We accept one coupon per item. Coupon amount may not exceed purchase price of item.
Internet coupons may be accepted if they meet the above and the following criteria:
• There must be a picture of the product on the coupon.
• The printed coupon must not be blurry.
• The face value of the coupon cannot exceed $5.00 off.

• The coupon must have a Canadian redemption address.
• The coupon must have only one UPC (i.e. bar code).
• The coupon must say “INTERNET COUPON” to be legitimate.
In regards to BOGO items, a coupon may be accepted for the item purchased but not for the free item.
I hope this clarifies our policy. Coupon acceptance is at the discretion of store management. Please feel free to speak with the Store Manager should you have any other concerns or questions.

I went to the "other" Sobeys store today in town thinking that they would accept my printed internet coupons because the Sobeys store that I usually frequent does with out issue. The cashier looked at me and said, I'm sorry but I cant accept anything printed on plain paper.
I guess it really does depend on the management in the store. She asked me if I wanted her to double check with the manager and I said yes, please. The manager enforced the no printed coupons policy. So instead of saving an extra $6.00 I paid an extra $6.00 today
I won't be shopping there again

I'm beginning to think that internet coupons arent worth the ink they're printed with - or the hassle !!!

Never met a dog or coupon I didn't like.
