Do you give your child only gender appropriate toys?
What would you do if someone gave your child something that is not considered 'gender appropriate'?

i played with toy cars when i was little and i turned out fine so i would let my children play with whatever toy was appealing to them. I had barbies but rarely played with them i liked all the hotwheels and those transformers

Personally I'm all for letting Hayden play with whatever he wants to. I grew up running around my island pretending I was a superhero any day over playing with my barbies. I even was the first one to get him a "doll" -couldn't help myself when he seemed so enthralled by Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas at the Disney store I was just so proud.. ha ha ha

We had mostly gender neutral toys growing up (i.e. no Barbie, just a few My Little Ponies I got from b-day parties). Why? Because my parents were cheap and I shared everything with my brother.

I have a boy and girl, both teenagers now BUT when they were little, their favourite toy and game to play TOGETHER was with matchbox cars and a road play mat and some blocks. They could literally do this for hours. They loved it!

My dad always bought me "boy" things and I enjoyed them. I don't think it's a big deal. If my little boy wanted a barbie he gets one.

My kids both played with what ever toy grabbed their attention at the moment...they are only 18 months apart so sometimes they played barbie's together and sometimes they played cars together.
Most daycares don't believe in gender typing for toys...and I agree w/ this.
There is nothing wrong w/ a boy playing w/ a doll..he is learing parenting skills and a girl playing w/ trucks...who knows maybe she will buy a welding shop one day and need to know about trucks and things
