Not the same comparison as you are only selling one item as these stores use certain sale items to draw in customers.
When they do not limit quantities, customers come in and the product is not in stock.
That only needs to happen once or twice and the customer either rushes in as soon as the sale is on which is not always possible if you are working...or the customer concludes the store will never have the item.
I get really irritated when our local SDM has a sale on eggs, milk and cheese and none of the items are in stock by Sat. noon with the sale only starting when the store opens.
What is my reaction...I go to another store that limits items so I get a chance at the sale.
There is a limit to how much a store can stock up especially on perishable items.

Say you made 8 litres of lemonade for your lemonade stand, and had 30 cups or whatever 8 litres will fit into. If the first guy that walked up said "I would like to buy 30 cups of your delightful lemonade," would you tell him no?

But how would he KNOW it was delightful without trying it first??
You know, the wholetreefallintheforestnobodyaroundthing.
If the lemonadeismadeandnobdodytastesitisitstilldelightfu llemonade?
I'm still standing at the edge of the curb looking at the stand, waiting to make my move. However, if there's a fraudulent PDF which allows me to get all 30 cups for free/have you pay me 5 cents to take it off your stand, then I MAY be interested.
I'm just sayin'....

Most LD stores will issue rainchecks on 'out of stock' items. Many LD stores will even specially order large quantities of items by request( speak to store manager). If a couponer keeps the size of their shopping trips reasonable, meets the criteria on the coupons, and is considerate of other customers, there shouldn't be any problems. (Fingers X'd)

Get a Raincheck. Most LD stores do not carry extra stock ' in the back', since space is limited.

Good Call! Perhaps the stores should be ordering more when the products go on sale. That would make good business sense.

Well, that depends, am I going to continue to sit at my lemonade booth all day with no lemonade, as dozens of thirsty passers-by come looking for a cup, just to tell them that I have none?
So whether or not you tell him no, you must still be able to (or attempt to) meet the demand of the everyday customers coming looking for one cup. If you don't have any more ingredients to make more cups of lemonade, you'd have a difficult time staying in business in the long term, as the one-cup passers by will probably not stop by again should they see you sitting by your stand, if they remember that the last time you had no lemonade, which was what they came looking for.
London drugs cannot simply close because their stock is low the same way I could take my little lemonade stand down and go back in the house. London drugs has to stay at the side of the road and apologize to everyone who comes by looking for something they don't have, which puts a bad taste in the mouths of some customers.

Cokebears, you are so right! The stores( ie. LD) do not get upset at selling out of everything, in fact, this makes them VERY VERY happy! It's the customers that get upset, and complain, loud and clear, in person, on the phone, by email and mail, when they come in and don't get what they want, when they want it, for the price they want it at! In an effort to appease these unhappy customers, the stores try to remedy these issues, in everyone's best interests, by implementing certain restrictions, when necessary(ie:quantity limits, stacking coupons, etc.) At the end of the busy work day, it really doesn't matter who bought what and how much...as long as it all sells!! One more thought; the companies will react to the consumer's actions!

This is a debate that will never end! When there's is a good deal posted on SC chances are everyone here will go and get it. I'm sure it happens to all of us, getting all excited to get this free item and it's not there. Should we really get all upset about it?? Why not just shrug your shoulders and move on to your next deal.
LD is having problems keeping there shelves stocked cuz' of the rapid increase of couponers. I'm sure in time LD will learn and stock up more products. Since LD is doing the limiting for us then we shouldn't be jumping down everyone's throat.
I definately think that the biggest thing an SC'er should know is NOT to complain to the staff if there isn't what they need. Maybe it's the complaining of the missing products that got us here in the first place!!

Well said. There is no need for all this. Perhaps a little less 'sharing of great deals', is in order, to keep the 'green-eyed monsters' away. Remember, be nice to each other!

i'll toss in another POV.. the companies that make the products, our local superstore has had some products PULLED from their shelf due to over coupon use by the company that makes them (if i remember right it's PG they pulled all Mr Clean products but i could be wrong.. i just know.. directly from a person who works there that this is the case)
if a company (PG, Unilver, nestle whatever) feels that coupons are being abused at a certain stores they will pull the product (sounds extreme i know) then both the customer AND the store is out of luckWhen life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....
