Hey everyone,

I don't have a car, so when I go shopping, I'm limited to going to stores relatively close to my home and buying what I can carry home in my backpack. Lucky for me, I don't mind being a bit of a pack mule! Here's a rundown of my weekend of savings

PharmaPlus
2 X Old Spice Dedorant - (Save $3 WUB 2) = 0.02 overage
= 37 cents after tax!

Loblaws
2 X Arm and Hammer So Clean Laundry Soda 3kg (on the 50% item discount rack) = 3.49 each!!
1 X Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce - (Save $2) = 0.01 overage!
Total was 8.87!

Less than $10 and almost more stuff than I could carry home!
After being loaded down with all the laundry soda, I had to wait for another trip to finish the shopping

Next day, I headed out again
Shopper's Drug Mart
2 X motrin - ($5 printable) = .99 each!
= 3.54 total!

Zellers
2 X Tide 64 use laundry detergent, PM with Walmart for 11.97, then used my $3 off WUB 2 from Bradsaver!
This was also the 10% off discount weekend, so I got an additional $1.20 off each bottle of detergent, plus the hbc points!
= 21.35 total

All in all, it was a great weekend for savings (grand total was 34.13 OOP), but probably not the best one for my back!

Why not buy a small foldable cart? Those are great and I have one myself, I hate hauling it around but I did groceries for many years in it. I also did groceries with 2 babies (this ages me since my babies are now 18 and 19!) and a baby trailer with my bike! LOL! That was a few hilarious grocery runs!

Put the kids in the trailer, then STACK food all around them, and yes, we even put the toilet paper at the kids feet, I wish I had taken pictures...

Resources were low so a monthly food run for diapers and everything else that was needed had to be done in 1-2 shopping trips max!

A high five to you for resourcefulness! It's all about finding out how to do more with less.

I used to go the route of using a little bundle cart. It broke about a year ago and I didn't end up replacing it. The problem was that I often pick up things when I'm out when I'm not actually planning on getting much of anything (laundry soda as a case in point; it was on the discount rack and I knew it would get snagged by someone else asap if I didn't pick it up then). It was too cumbersome to carry around "just in case", so it got left at home more often than not until a fateful day when I tried to bring kitty litter home in it...

Now, I often carpool with neighbours when I need really, really heavy stuff (I buy their milk or bread or whatever in exchange for a drive), but that didn't work out this weekend. Also, the weather was really nice, so I didn't mind the walk.

I know I also *could* take the bus, but factoring in spending $3.25 that I hadn't anticipated would kill a lot of the savings on small trips.

Oh! Well yes in those cases it would not work, of course I was more thinking of the "Ok I'm walking down to the market with the intent to buy deals" in those cases the cart would clearly work! But not in the impromptu "power buy..." but you had coupons! Are you telling me you walk around with your coupon book? LOL Being a man, I don't have a "purse" so, its hard for me to do that, I actually have to PLAN bringing MY coupons!

and my wife supports the savings, but I think until she sees how much more we can save that I won't convince her to carry my booklet in her purse!

Do you bike? It is a quick way to get your groceries. I have bags that attach to the back of the bike (not sure what you call that part, above your wheel) so you can carry some heavier things.
