So i got word this afternoon about a lady here in Regina who is gathering donations and with the help of Westjet will be delivery them at the end of this week. The list of needs consists of Underwear, socks, T-shirts and toiletries. Well as soon as I was able to get upstairs (kid not attached to me) I went to work!!! So far between my 5 yr old, hubby and myself we have:
1 shopping bag each of us of socks and underwear (all most new and were just tucked away in the back of our drawers)
1 garbage bag of t-shirts and tanks
2 boxes of toiletries (shampoo. Conditioner, BW, tooth brushes and paste, ect.)
DD has been out for the afternoon but i text her when i found out about this and is planning on going through her things when she gets home. She has SSSSooooo many clothes (15 yr old so ya) that i can only imagine what shes going to hand me!!!
Feels so good to give these to someone who I know for a fact is going to use them instead of donating them to Salvation Army or someplace that re-sells for a profit!!!This thread is currently associated with: Westjet (Vacations)

Awesome scbpooh that your whole family is involved!!! It's fun to read other people's brags about saving money, but these type of brags are my favourite! I think it is much more satisfying helping and donating to others, not to mention heart warming.

WTG, OP.
We donated for Calgary through ING. They had it on their website when we went to pay our bills. They will send a tax receipt.

Great humanitarian brag.. This reminds me to look into how I can donate clothes that I really didn't want to give to charity to sell.

good for you for donating.
BTW, Salvation Army is actually a non-profit charitable organization, and is one of the key organizations in providing disaster relief, and is actively involved in helping people affected by the Calgary flood situation.

Stef l am very proud of you and your family, but especially your teenage daughter as she is learning a life lesson. Give her a hug from me, and let her know how proud the coupon community is of her.

Good for you! I Know that what you did will really help heal the hearts of those in need.
It is astonishing the way calgary has pulled together for this and when you hear the politicians talk they make it sound like all is ok .... but.... people who lost everything are just getting back in their homes. There is a big difference between what they give you in a shelter to get you through and what you need to function on a daily basis.
There are so many in High River (south of calgary) that are not allowed back to their homes even still. They say the air itself is a biohazard. Far too many in High River will have nothing to go back to. High rivers losses are nothing less then devastating.
That being said the damage in calgary was much less then most feared. There is a race right now to make sure the Ctrain gets functional and that the stampede will go off without a hitch. (the stampede needs to go off for moral and the local economy) Volunteers are showing up in MASS amounts to the point where after a few minutes they have all they can use for city clean up and people get turned away. They are keeping the news geared to these kind of events and staying away from the not nice bits of this flood... moral is so important and it is consistently being nourished through the hearts of people who help, volunteer and donate... really thank you for helping.
